Team ‘Victa’ Run Riot At The Bridge

Tuesday Meeting (Straight track)

Dave Peckham has been a frequent visitor to Murray Bridge in recent times and the long drive from Mount Gambier was rewarded on Tuesday, with Dave collecting a training double in the first two races of the afternoon.

Taking out both of the maiden races for the card, Unleash Sophie (Beast Unleashed x Cawbourne Sophie) was the first, with the white and black bitch getting the job done from box four over the short trip. After a good effort on debut the week prior, Unleash Sophie went about things the right way early, firing out to an early lead. Jumping really well and finding the lead, she went straight to the outside fence and was promptly challenged after she did that. It was a fantastic battle the whole way up between her and Especial Yogi, but in the end it was race experience that proved the difference, with Unleash Sophie winning by a pimple in 17.19.

In the next race, it was Aston Jack (Aston Kimetto x Aston Topaz), who had box seven for his assignment. A slow start had the fawn dog on the back foot and with a bit of work to do. Midrace, it was an excellent charge with the whole field in an even line, but down the outside Aston Jack had made his move and before long he had hit the front. Once there, he held his margin and won nicely in 17.33.

Craig Jaensch has had a good run of things lately and he picked up a double for the afternoon as well. Street Beast was the first as he showed his love for the straight, with a powerful win over the short trip. In a heat of the 1-3 win grade 6 series, he came out of the boxes a tad slowly and found some trouble early which cost him a couple of lengths. He rebalanced himself and started to go through his gears, before making his move midrace. With the finish line approaching the black dog powered to the lead and put the race away, winning impressively in 17.06.

It was then a few races later that the high quality My Reason added another victory to her fantastic race record, taking out the fast class event over the 350m trip. From box six in the small field, the blue bitch came out of the boxes well and found herself in front, which she normally does. Out in front, she was doing things well and despite being challenged, she proved too quick and got the job done in a sharp 19.26. Another good day out for Craig!

Friday Meeting

Ron Schadow continued his brilliant run with the ‘Victa’ team, taking out another treble at the Friday meeting. Victa Val continued her excellent rise, taking out her grade 6 over the 455m trip, handling box five for the second week in a row.  A quick start saw her power to the lead early and given the strength she had shown in recent starts, she was always going to be tough to catch. That indeed proved the case, as she was simply too good, leading all the way in a handy 25.85.

Two races later, it was the sister in Victa Chrissy who put together a powerful display to take out the grade 6 final over the 455m distance. After a good run in the heat last week, she went around big odds from a wide draw. When she found herself last as they came out of the boxes, things seemed unlikely. Despite the slow start, she had plenty of time to build into her work and with a big midrace push, she had herself near the lead going around the turn. At the top of the straight she had gotten to the front, before exploding late to win, running away from the others with a very impressive win, clocking 25.79. She gives every impression that she will run further too!

It was in the next race and from the same distance, that Victa Monty returned to his brilliant best, running a best of the day 25.67, with his strong performance. From a middle draw, he jumped better than usual and landed second, with plenty of room to move. It didn’t take him long to get to the lead and once he did it was race over, as he got the job done in comfortable fashion. Another great day for Ron and the team who are doing an excellent job with this litter!

Paul Somerset is a trainer that doesn’t have many dogs in work, but he has got Todd’s James racing in terrific form, with the black dog landing another victory on Friday. After winning a couple of weeks earlier up the straight track, he lined up over the 395m distance for a grade 6 assignment and had box one to help him out.

When the boxes opened, Todd’s James stumbled and found himself in an awkward spot on the fence, a few lengths off the lead, but a gap opened shortly after and he got into his work quickly. Around the bend, he whizzed around to the lead and looked in control. Entering the straight, he was doing it well and held a margin right through the line, winning in 22.68, which would have very much pleased Paul!
