Tanya Bialek Lands First Training Victory
Tuesday (Straight track)
The Gary Piedgon trained Billy’s The Best (Sennachie x Blessed In Black) has been trying to break his maiden for a while now and on Tuesday he was able to do that, with a gutsy effort over the 300m trip. From box eight, he jumped well and cruised down to the rail early. The challengers appeared midrace but it was a determined effort from Billy as he kept his head in front narrowly, before winning by the barest of margins 17.24. Certainly a deserving and overdue win!
Tony Nobes has become a regular at the straight track and picked up two winners on Tuesday. Dazzling Cruiser was first up and continued her brilliant form as she took out the grade 6 series final over the 350m journey. It was a relatively painless watch for her backers as she fired straight to the front early and travelled beautifully. The end result was a 3 length win in 19.41. That was her fifth straight victory since arriving in South Australia and she is yet to be beaten over here, pretty good! The other winner for Tony was Deadly Redeemer who took out the fast class of the day over the short trip. From a wide box six she jumped well and worked her way to the lead early. She had a clear lead but the challengers were coming quickly as they approached the finish line, but she dug deep and pulled out enough to win well in 16.84.
It was a special day for Tanya Bialek who scored her first winner as a trainer with Bulsara winning narrowly over the 300m trip. From box four, the brindle dog jumped well in what was his first start for 6 weeks which allowed him to find some clear air early. After finding the lead, he was headed and overtaken midrace, which generally means race over, but it wasn’t this time, as he was able to make the most of a touch of luck and get back in front. It was a gripping finish but he hung on by a neck in 17.09 for a gutsy win. A memorable day no doubt for Tanya and hopefully the first of plenty more winners for her.
Dog to follow: Lot Of Poise - Returned to the winners list with a brilliant victory on Tuesday, running a red hot 16.84 to take out the grade 5 final. He was slowly away but was super strong coming home and won quite comfortably. Clearly he likes the straight and it won’t be easy to beat him over the 350m trip.
Sunday (1-Turn)
On a windy night at the Bridge, Aston Ziebell was able to make a statement with a completely dominant best of the night 25.43 win in the grade 5 final over the 455m journey. It was a strong field which saw Aston Ziebell start second favourite after a good effort the week prior. From box seven, he came out much quicker this week and worked his way to an early lead. He travelled sweetly going into the turn and had built quite a margin by this point. The others didn’t get near him in the home straight as he roared away for a big 6 length victory. With only a few weeks until the Murray Bridge Cup, performances like that are going to make him a major player!
Ken Trowbridge rolled into the Bridge with three dogs for the meeting, with all three landing in the same race! The ‘Footluce’ clan were all involved in the 395m grade 6 for the night and thankfully for Ken, he was able to have one of them win in the form of Footluce Dreamer, who was brilliant in her victory. She drew well in box one after a strong effort the week prior and she was able to make the most of the draw, coming out well and finding the front. After receiving a good challenge midrace, her class was a bit too much as she powered away for a fast 22.41 win, which was only a length off the fast class race of the night. Her brother Footluce Fever ran onto second as well to make it a Trowbridge quinella!
Indy Ghost has been consistent since arriving in South Australia and saw reward for his efforts with a win in the grade 5 over the 395 trip. It was an ugly draw with box four and whilst he came out well, he was stuck outside a wide runner and doing a bit of work. Running third as they went around the bend, he ducked back to the inside and started to run home strongly. In what was a frantic finish with four dogs all within a length of each other, it was Indy Ghost who got the head down and won 22.72. A good strong chasing effort that would have pleased his trainer Ray Fewings.
Dog to follow: Colonel Trigger - He’s just so honest and consistent and tries so hard every time he goes around. Ran second again on Sunday behind the flying Aston Ziebell, but if he’s back on Friday and can run up to that again then he’s going to take some beating.
