Sweet Success

A greyhound having just her second race start made it the perfect result with two wins after being successful in the Dinky Di Web Designs Stake over 400m at Gawler on Tuesday.

When the lids went up, Snow Code from box 2 bounced straight to the front, from Sugar Crystal (1) on the rails and Dressed In Blue (6). Down the back straight Sugar Crystal pushed through on the inside of Snowcode and it became a neck and neck struggle for the lead.

Sugar Crystal eventually got to the front and ran strongly to the line to win by 2 lengths, despite Snowcode switching fora better rails run. Snowcode ran second for Trevor Jessup of Croydon Park and Yard Hopper (4) which railed well and make up a lot of ground finished third for David Hall of Paskeville.

Sugar Crystal ran a good time of 22.91 secs in winning for owner and trainer Natasha Isaacson of Lewiston. Natasha also bred “Emma”, a member of the first litter from her former handy race bitch, Crystal Scull, a winner of 28 races. There is a second litter not that far away from racing age, which Natasha has high hopes for.

Natasha admitted she didn’t think much of greyhound racing before being involved, and it was only when her parents entered the sport some 10 years ago that she became keen. Having held a training license for 8 years, Natasha said she really enjoys it now as she loves working with the animals and likes to win.

Natasha also recently achieved another success when she was announced Volunteer of the Year in SA at the Greyhound Racing SA awards. Natasha is a keen committee member at Gawler and works actively for the Club, particularly in the canteen at the track. Natasha commented that it was “nice to be nominated and recognised within the industry” for her work.

No trainer was able to leave with a winning multiple, but noteworthy wins came from two trainers who have very small teams. Sam Decrea was successful in race 1 when she won with Hurricane Ivy, while in the final race, Charlie Adcock of Kilburn got Where’s Ceduna over the line.

Racing is at Gawler every Tuesday afternoon and the next Sunday meeting is on the 27th April.
