Wednesday

The flying Michael Giniotis picked up a double on Wednesday with a couple of lesser known chasers getting the job done. Woodside Bella (Worm Burner x Victa Louise) who is owned by Graham Smith broke her maiden status with a good effort from box five over the short trip. She was quite slow into stride and found herself back in the pack, but showed some smarts to improve her position mid-race. With a bit of fortune at the top of the home turn, she went to the front and put the race away, winning easily in 23.25. Springvale Coco then won a couple of races later from box two. She stepped beautifully and went straight to lead and stayed on the rail, never being troubled as she won in 23.03. There's not much that Michael isn’t winning at the moment!

Nicole Price had two winners for the day with Dramatic Diva being the first as she overcame box eight with a dashing display. After coming out fairly, she quickly mustered and swept around the outside and looked awfully dangerous.   It didn’t take long for her to go to the front and once there she went right on with it, eventually winning by 4 lengths in a slick 22.84. Nicole’s other winner came in the form of Roxy Smudge, who showed real guts and determination to get the job done from box five over the 400m trip. She jumped okay but was quickly squeezed up and out wide. She had to do it tough but kept grinding away before ducking back to the inside for what proved to be a race winning move, as she powered over the top in 22.89.

Way Too Soft, who is trained by Chris Jaensch, has been a very consistent chaser throughout his career and despite only having a few wins, he is always around the mark. On Wednesday, he was rewarded for his consistency with a close victory from box one over the 400m journey. After being led initially, he railed through on the back straight and was pushing his way to the lead. Around the home turn he had found the lead and looked home, but just as they hit the finish line he was challenged strongly again, but he did enough to grip in 22.83.

Sunday

Heats of the Gawler Breeders took centre stage on the Sunday evening program and easily the most impressive performance came from the Tim Richards trained Coorong Cam, who lit the clock up in his red hot victory from box two. After being initially led by the high quality Victa Marli, the big brindle dog settled a couple of lengths off down the back. Given the shearing speed that Victa Marli possesses, it was going to be quite a task to run her down, but Coorong Cam was up to it. He started to power through his gears and his brute strength and force saw him rail underneath her in the home straight and win in a best of the night 22.44. Tim then had a double with Silk Sonic winning yet again at Gawler, leading all the way in his breeders heat and winning in 22.61. Another great night for Tim and a fantastic Gawler Breeders final awaits next week.

The ‘Sutton’ team were out in force on Sunday and took out three races as a collective, with two of them being trained by Angela Modra and the other by Jack Williams. The first was Sutton Prince who used box one perfectly in the fast class of the night, leading all the way and hanging on in a thriller for a 22.68 win, before Sutton Ebony scorched around in the next race, also going all the way over the 531m trip and running a airborne 30.53, which was the quickest all night. It was a little wait to the last where the nearly 4 years old Sutton Sandy added another win to her fabulous career record, zooming over from box seven in the 400m event and putting her rivals away easily in a flying 22.63. A pretty good night all round from the Sutton crew!

Another brilliant winner on the night was Go Go Snow who made light work of box eight for her grade 6 event over 400m. When the boxes opened she had her very best box manners on show, as she flew out and led in a red hot 8.57 first split and was travelling beautifully. The favourite was just a couple of lengths behind her but she was simply too fast and despite racing wide most of the race, she just stormed away and won in 22.52. She’s a nice type and progressing very nicely.
