The emergence of a genuine topline sprinter in South Australia has been somewhat sparse in recent times but it appears as if we have a new flag bearer in the form of Stout Monelli. The former Western Australian has come back from a spell in arguably career best form, winning three in a row, all of which have been against the states best dogs and he has been winning with ease and arrogance. His trainer, Tim Aloisi, is happy with how he has returned from a potentially serious injury.

“Yeah he’s come back real good, I’m happy. He was a fast dog in Perth really, but he’s going as good as I’ve got him.”

“He put a little tear in his back leg in the Adelaide Cup heat when he lost, so nothing major. Then he did a calf which again was nothing too serious, but I thought I would just give him a let up and target the ‘Ashes’. I just trialled him the last three weeks getting him and his head right.”

In regards to the training preparation this time around compared to when Stout Monelli first arrived, Tim says it’s all still the same.

“Really just the same, sometimes you get them over and race them straight away, so it takes them a while to settle in. You come to Adelaide and you don’t ‘fly’ straight away. Look at Honcho Monelli, he never came here and dominated his first six or seven runs and I reckon Shima Breeze took about 10 runs to break ‘30’ at Angle Park. It feels like Stout has been in my kennel for longer but he’s only been here for 9 starts. I think he’s just starting to feel comfortable with Angle Park and my routine.”’

“I do a lot of street walking and galloping. Just a couple of gallops each week and then street walking day and night.”
