Stewards Notice - Deletion of LR 77
Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) Stewards recently considered the merits of a historical Local Rule remaining in the Rules of Greyhound Racing SA Limited.
LR77(SA) prevented a penalty being placed on a person or a greyhound without an inquiry being conducted in accordance with the Rules. Stewards deemed this Local Rule was both limiting and impractical, and saw little utility in it being retained.
By deleting the Rule, for example, Stewards would have greater scope to act in relation to participants who chose to relinquish their registration rather than face disciplinary action, with the Controlling Body being able to issue a penalty without conducting a full inquiry process. This means that in the most serious of matters, a penalty can be placed upon a person to exclude them from our industry, in order to protect the interests of our sport.
Following a recommendation by the GRSA Stewards and the GRSA Integrity and Welfare Committee, the GRSA Board resolved the deletion of LR77(SA).
As a result, GRSA has deleted LR77(SA). This change took effect as of 1 January 2020.
