Tuesday (Straight track)

The maiden series final was one of the highlights from the Tuesday program at Murray Bridge, with the Bronwyn Welsh trained Buddy Kruger (Hooked On Scotch x Serene Machine) taking out the event over the 300m trip. Starting favourite from box four after a handy debut effort the week prior, the black dog went up with the lids early which put him on the back foot. After finding himself last, he was able to somehow avoid some trouble in front and shoot around to the outside. Once he was there he quickly went through his gears and powered away, finding a healthy lead and never stopping in front. He walked away with a comprehensive 17.15 win, which was a ripper. That win was also a double for Bronwyn with the littermate Harper’s Buddy winning the race prior in a handy 17.22.

Tony Nobes has been a regular visitor to the straight for quite a while now and picked two winners for the meeting along with one from his wife Karryn. The super reliable Curl’s Victory added yet another brilliant victory to her career tally, taking out the fast class race in a red hot 16.67, before Deadly Redeemer went a touch quicker to win the following race. From box six, his box manners were at their best and once he led it was race over for the others, as he went all the way in a BOD 16.63. Dazzling Cruiser rounded out the treble for the pair, with a fast and gritty effort from box seven over the shorter trip. She showed pace early but had to deal with a midrace challenge and did so quite well, before running away in 16.73. A top day at the office for the Nobes team!

Tim Richards is enjoying a nice run with his young team at home and he picked up a winning double for the day too. Deavonish Girl came back for her second start at the track, after a good effort the week prior. She had box five for the 350m race. A quick beginning allowed the fawn bitch plenty of room to move in the centre of the track early. She found the lead halfway up the straight and was doing it well. The challengers came late but they were not good enough to pick her up as she won in 19.43. Circus Craze was the other winner for Tim and she found herself in a very suitable 1-2 win grade 6 event over the 300m. From box four she did it well and got the job done in 17.02.

Dog to follow: Aussie Show - Having just had third career starts prior to the effort Tuesday, she was lining up for start four after a 2 month hiatus. She had box four and ended up running second, but looked really fluent in her action and ran a handy 16.91 herself. That form is much improved from what she showed early doors and I think she will be worth following this preparation.

Friday (1-Turn)

Richard Stasiaks ventured down for another afternoon at the Bridge, with just two chasers, before leaving at the end of the day with two winners! Elegant Rosie was first up and it was her first go around the one-turn track. She left the boxes a bit awkwardly which is never ideal but was able to get some clear to balance up and get into her work. She was running second early but around the turn she went past the leader and was looking quite good from there. Once in front she travelled strongly and was never in any danger, as she won in 22.86. Richard had to wait a while for the brother to strut his stuff with Elegant Bix also drawing the black and white rug. He had been causing himself some bother in previous runs but went into this race as favourite. A quick beginning allowed him to find the early lead, but he did get outpaced and headed around the turn. The brute force and strength of the 31kg dog allowed him to stay on the fence and come back at the leader, before storming away for a slick 22.36 victory. I am sure that win would have put a smile on Richard’s face!

Kirin Corby made the rare trip down to Murray Bridge with two of her chasers and ended up with both in the same race. Foreshadow and Southbound were both given a solid chance in the grade 6 race over the 455m trip. It was a pretty hot go early with a good battle for the lead, but the strength and power of Foreshadow allowed him to work his way to the front before they hit the turn. Things were looking good for the 36kg dog as he went a few lengths in front, but around the turn he went extremely wide. In the straight he was able to balance up and kick on again, with the kennelmate and littermate Southbound, running into second. The end result was a 25.73 win to Foreshadow and a quinella for Kirin!

You will struggle to find an animal in better form than Spring Flute at the moment, with the brindle bitch winning again on Friday, which made it three straight for her. After winning her last two starts super impressively over the shorter trips, she stepped up to the 455m journey for the first time in her career. Things were quite dicey for her early when she was poorly away and shuffled back to near last in the grade 6 event. Some smarts and courage saw her stay on the fence and make up some ground heading into the turn. As they entered the straight, the Wendy Sebastyan trained chaser went into complete overdrive and stormed home, running away for a dominant 25.63 win. The strength of that win was eye catching and she will be pretty hard to beat wherever she goes next.

Dog to follow: Sandave Diamond - Fair to say he’s a chaser that has struggled to always show his best form, but a recent kennel change seems to have helped the dog who has been slowly improving in his last couple. His massive upset win on Friday was a sign that he’s somewhere near his best, considering he ran down a couple of the best sprinters going around. If he’s back over the 455m trip soon then he’s going to take a bit of beating.
