Springvale Maddi Wins Gawler Future Stars Final

Easter Sunday greyhound racing action came to Gawler where we saw a terrific ten race card take place at the venue. The race meeting was highlighted by the 2022 Gawler Future Stars Final. The two heats were run last week and were taken out by Springvale Rex and Springvale Max for trainer Gavin Harris. Despite only running third in her heat the race favourite for the final would be Springvale Maddi who is trained by Cherylee Barber. Springvale Maddi was the winner of the SA St Leger earlier in the year at Angle Park.

The race favourite Springvale Maddi jumped very well from box four and found the lead very early in the race. She ran a 3.15 first split and looked very hard to run down in the early stages of the race. She extended on her lead down the back and up the straight to win by a massive six lengths and three quarters. She ran a super quick time of 30.66 which is just outside of her personal best of 30.64. Springvale Maddi is half owned by Gavin Harris who is the trainer of the second place getter Springvale Rex. The other Gavin Harris owned greyhound in the race was Springvale Max. Maddie, Red and Max are all from the same little of pups and all owned by Gavin Harris. The Springvale little are definitely a group of greyhounds to keep an eye on.

Earlier on in the night we saw the exciting youngster Kinrock Star taste success in race one. The Troy Murray trained greyhound would compete in a 643 meter race. It was his first look over the longer distance and he handled it like a pro. He jumped well from box four and lobbed into second placing early. Before you knew it on the second turn he went to the front and was off and gone by four lengths. He went onto win the race by an extraordinary eleven lengths, He ran a time of 37.02 which is just outside of the track record of 36.81. He is definitely a promising youngster to keep an eye on.

Greyhound racing returns to Gawler on Wednesday afternoon and on Sunday Night during the long weekend. Make sure you head down to the track for a quality feed and a great time at the greyhounds.
