Spontaneous Sets Sights On Breeders Prelude FInal

The final of the Breeders Prelude will be run this Thursday at Angle Park, with an even field assembled, following three heats last week.

Last week's heats were taken out by Zinfandel Evie (31.05), Majestic Mclaren (30.73) and Jukebox Duke (30.87). This series will serve as the last preview before the lucrative Howard Ashton event in early May, which is for South Australian bred chasers that are whelped between January 2022 and June 2022.

The emerging Spontaneous, for trainer Nicole Price, will be hoping to show his true ability when he lines up from box three in the final. Having shown how good he is at the Gawler track, with some hot runs including 30.73 and 30.61 victories, he has been unable to translate that form to Angle Park yet, which Price puts down to a confidence factor, which she believes cost him in the heat last week.

“He’s quite an immature dog in the way he races, he doesn’t make the best moves. He’s very erratic. The dog has a lot of potential but no one has seen it because of it. His box manners let him down, he’s hit the running rail the last two times there (Angle Park), he even bounced off the running rail in the heat and he couldn’t get into the race.” said Price

“It’s why we’ve kept him at Angle Park now, to get his confidence up. He races a lot tougher at Gawler, but he was broken in there. I think he’s getting a bit better every time he comes out, so I’ve decided to leave him there for this race.”

Spontaneous comes out of the Spring Bridge x Up Time Girl litter, which was whelped in January in 2022. Up Time Girl was a terrific performer on the track, winning over $40,000 and it is clear that she has thrown a good one in the form of Spontaneous, with the rest of the litter also showing some ability.

“We kept the whole litter, Up Time Girl, Cameron Butcher gave me her to breed and keep after we raced her. He (Spontaneous) is clearly the best out of that whole litter, we’ve got another litter out of Up Time Girl to Orson Allen and I am more impressed with that litter than the first one.” said Price

It’s an even field on Thursday night and Price will be hoping that Spontaneous can jump well and land in a close position early, before using his strength to run past the others late.

“I’m happy with box three, if he can just get through that first bend up close.” said Price

“He will need to jump with them and then muster up, I am hoping he will be behind the one (Springvale Blitz) and hopefully he gets the rails through. He’s definitely strong enough.”

Away from the Breeders Prelude, the card will see an intriguing fast class event over the sprint trip, where Fantastic Spike and Riot Rooster look set to look horns, whilst Like Wildfire will be looking to reassert his brilliance, when he tackles an Open Grade 595m event.

Racing will start at 6:40pm local time.
