Sir Truculent has made an impact on the Victorian racing scene. After a great run in the heats on Friday night, he has secured his spot in the upcoming Bold Trease Final, which is set to be run this Friday 27th November at Sandown. A 715m race with $105,000 in prize money up for grabs, Sir Truculent is facing some stiff competition against favourites such as Houdini Boy.

As greyhound racing was brought to a standstill in South Australia last week for the first time since World War II, Sir Truculent was lining up in a tough heat at Sandown Park to try to make it through to the Group 1 final. The Truck sat comfortably in second for the majority of the race, gaining on the winner Sweet As Emm down the front straight, who was able to hold on by a head to the South Australian stayer. You can watch a replay of the race here.

Trained by Wally Harkins, this isn’t Sir Truculent’s first Group 1 chance for glory in Victoria after his run in the 2020 TAB Topgun Stayers at Meadows earlier this month. While he missed out on the place, finishing fifth, (Barney ran a strong race and is only looking to improve on his Melbourne formt this Friday night. As he walked him around the property on Thursday afternoon Wally stated that he is, “quietly confident, he has done everything right and is definitely good enough.”

With the advantages of the great facilities he has at Catch Me if You Can, a greyhound education facility, Wally said, “we have been doing everything possible to keep his routine which is a huge advantage.”

While the markets has the favourite in Houdini Boy, if Sir Truculent can show the form he is accustomed to at Angle Park, the South Australian could claim his biggest win to date. “He has a big following over here and we hope that he performs well for them,” said Wally.

The whole of South Australia will be watching Sir Truculent, hoping for him to pip the field all at the post for what would be a great South Australian victory at Sandown Park.
