Shane McQueen Final win
2014 SHANE MCQUEEN REVIEW
Big Zap last night for trainer Troy Murray continued on his winning way with a solid performance in the Shane McQueen final at Angle Park last night taking out the first prize of $5,000.
Starting one of the favourites for the event after his impressive heat win the son of Superman and Boss Ready Made began nicely from box 3 over the 600m to land third early behind Farmeroo who pinged the lids for trainer Ken Gill to lead with Cool Promise in second.
Down the back straight Farmeroo still had a nice lead with Big Zap moving to second and other race favourites Wild Soul and Cairnlea Layla also making ground into the race. As heads turned for home the big crowd rose as Big Zap collared Farmeroo near the finishing line to claim a terrific victory by 1½ lengths from Farmeroo who was game in defeat with Wild Soul who made ground into third a further 2 ¾ lengths away.
Big Zap recorded a slick 34.87 for the 600m journey making it 5 wins from his last 5 starts and taking his overall record to 7 wins and 4 placing’s from 17 starts and career prizemoney of over $15,000.
On the presentation dais Troy paid tribute to Shane McQueen who was an excellent greyhound administrator starting his career in WA before becoming the CEO of GRSA until his untimely passing in 2003. Troy also thanked the owners for the opportunity to train Big Zap and advised that he would be sent across to Victoria for his next campaign.
