2014 SCHWEPPES SA DERBY – REVIEW

Up and coming Queensland star Iva Vision took on a crack field of chasers in last night Schweppes SA Derby and showed why he is rated one of the most exciting chasers in the land with a devastating display of speed and stamina.

The Peter Young trained flyer was favourably drawn in box 8 having won his two previous starts from the pink and there was plenty of support for him after his blistering heat performance to be sent out the punters elect.

As the start was affected the field all come out as one with no leader clearly defined until Dyna Alchemist pushed forward along with Iva Vision towards the winning post on the first occasion. Rounding the first turn however Iva Vision put his paw to the floor and accelerated past his challengers to race away down the back straight. The margin grew bigger as the Ivan Brown x Visualization chaser was in full flight. He raced to the second split in a sizzling 16.92 with Dyna Alchemist and Dyna Ostrander giving chase followed by Wind Whistler and Texas Titan both beginning to make ground. As all eyes turned for home Iva Vision was all over a winner and the interest was now in the time and the minor placing’s. He stopped the clock in a brilliant 29.57 for the 515m journey to win by 6 lengths from Wind Whistler for Angela Langton who sprouted wings when clear late to grab second and Texas Titan for Jeff Britton who also flew home from well back in the field to secure third a further 2¾ lengths away.

The $25,000 first prize took Iva Vision’s prizemoney past $33,000 and the impressive record of 10 wins and 2 seconds from his 15 lifetime starts.

Peter’s father Brian who travelled with the greyhound over the last three weeks was on hand to accept the trophy. He indicated that Iva Vision would be back for next month’s Group 1 Macro Meats Adelaide Cup which is great news for the local fans that he has secured over the last few weeks. History suggests that the connections of Iva Vision could be in for exciting times with the last two SA Derby winners in Spud Regis and Ernie Bung Arrow both going onto win the Group 1 feature.
