SA’s Best Dogs On Display In The Gawler Cup Heats
Monday Night greyhound racing returned to Gawler this week for the heats of the Gawler Gold Cup. The Gold Cup is feature event of the year for the Gawler Greyhound Club and the heats indicated that we are in for a very entertaining final this Sunday night. The first heat was taken out by All Show for trainer Don Turner. He has now had 75 starts for 24 wins. The second heat saw a very talented field go around. Track specialist Victa Hadyn bounced to the lead from box one and led throughout to run a time of 30.64 which was the quickest time of the night for trainer Tony Rasmussen. Running second was Jack’s Well who qualified for the final for trainer Cameron Butcher. The third heat went to Came And Went for trainer Troy Murray. Came And Went showed explosive speed from box eight and led all of the way for a 30.80 victory.

Heat number four was taken out by the lightly raced Fire Strike for trainer Bosko Stamenkovic. Fire Strike has only had the 11 starts for 4 wins. He found the front in the early stages of the race and hit the line well running a time of 30.95 in the process. Victa Reid ran second and secured himself a place in the final for trainer Lisa Rasmussen. Tony Rasmussen would take out the fifth and final heat with Victa Grosso showing off his powerful closing speed to run down the early leader Rosie Red. Victa Grosso ran a time of 30.76 while Rosie Red will qualify for the final for Bosko Stamenkovic.
We also saw four heats of the Gawler Sprint Classic over the 400 meters. The first heat was taken out by South Eastern trainer Dave Peckham with his short course specialist Aston Hayoto. He bounced to the lead from box four and ran a time of 23.07 which was impressive considering it was only his second look at the track. In form speedster Patched won the second heat for successful trainer Nicole Price. He ran 22.70 which was the quickest time out of all four of the heats. The third heat went the way of She’s A Hotshot for Troy Murray. She ran a time of 22.87 and led all of the way. The fourth and final heat was dominated from start to finish by Svitolina for trainer Ray Murray. She ran a time of 23.07.
Sunday night promises to be a very entertaining night at the Gawler Greyhound Club. The Gold Cup final has brought together a fantastic field which should produce a very entertaining race. We will also see the running of the Gawler Sprint Classic Final over the 400 meters along with the heats of the Gawler Stayers Cup.
