It was a proud day for owners Neville Loechel and Jeff Weber as Weblec Jet took out the Group 2 Geelong Gold Cup final (520m) on Friday night.

Neville, who is the Murray Bridge Greyhound Racing Club President, was there for the evening with his family and was very excited by his performance. “He took some time off after the G1 National Derby at Wentworth Park in Sydney and has come back even faster,” Neville commented.

This speedy 2 year old knows how to make an impact on the track. In a race where all eight finalists were from the Geelong region, Weblec Jet, trained at Anakie by Jeff Britton clocked a near-record 29.54sec. His time was only .02sec off the 29.52sec track record set by Fernando Express – trained by Britton’s older brother, Rob on July 27, 2018.

“We are really happy with the trainers, all the dogs in their kennels are fantastic. They all look so fit and healthy, you can tell by their coats,“ Neville stated.

Weblec Jet jumped well from Box 4 leaving the field in his wake as he defeated Yozo Bale by 4 lengths, with reserve runner Sweet As Emm , a finalist in 2020, a further 1.25 lengths away third in 29.54sec.

His victory means that Weblec Jet successfully turned the tables on Yozo Bale, who narrowly defeated him in the Ballarat Cup Consolation (450m) only two weeks ago.

Clocking up his ninth win from 27 starts and the $50,000 first prize brings his stakes to $107,695. We look forward to seeing what he does next as he takes on the heats of the Warrnambool Cup this Thursday evening.
