SA OWNED & BRED GREYHOUNDS QUINELLA THE GROUP 1 SAPPHIRE CROWN

Litter sisters Oakvale Destiny & Oakvale Flyer created their own piece of history by running the quinella in the Group 1 Sapphire Crown last night at Sandown.

Bred locally by Ken & Melissa Trowbridge and Nathan Wilson the litter sisters are from a 10 pup litter by boom sire Vapour Whirl and brood bitch Foot Luce.

They are owned by Nathan who resides in a little town called Parilla in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia situated on the Mallee Highway between Lameroo and Pinnaroo.

Both greyhounds were sent to the boxes as handy eachway chances in the Group 1 feature however after race favourite Zelemar Fever found severe trouble early the race was wide open. Oakvale Destiny was the last greyhound out of the boxes and was checked soon after the start however after chasing hard she gathered speed through the first turn and had improved to third place. Down the back straight she loomed up to the early leaders before sweeping past on turning for home and powering to a memorable victory. She ran a sizzling 29.92 for the 515m journey with her sister and kennel mate Oakvale Flyer storming home for second, completing the quinella for Victorian trainer Jeff Britton and Nathan.

Oakdale Destiny’s record prior to tonight’s win was 3 wins and 3 placings from her 10 starts with prizemoney of $9,695 however her fourth win netted Nathan a cool $100,000 and his biggest win in greyhound racing.

Oakvale Flyer’s record for running second also improved her career from 6 wins and 3 placings from 12 starts and $22,515 in stakes with an extra $30,000 being added.

Not only will Nathan be excited about the $130,000 in prizemoney but he will also share in $7,500 as being a part breeder of Oakvale Destiny. Thanks to the GRSA Super Bonus for breeders of an Interstate Group 1 winner she has added herself to a list of recent winners which includes Tonk who won the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg final at Wentworth Park in April with $7,500 also heading to his breeder Karen Bearpark.
