MEDIA RELEASE – SA BRED GREYHOUNDS MAKE INTERSTATE FINALS

The SA Breeding industry is making real inroads on the national scene highlighted by three SA Bred greyhounds making the Group 1 Sapphire Crown and Group 2 Harrison Dawson finals at Sandown on Thursday night.

In race 6 at 8.22pm (SA time) the final of the Macro Meats Sapphire Crown sisters Oakvale Destinty and Oakvale Flyer have drawn boxes 5 and 8 respectively for Victorian trainer Jeff Britton and look to have terrific eachway chances. They were bred by Ken & Melissa Trowbridge and Nathan Wilson locally and is by boom sire Vapour Whirl and brood bitch Foot Luce. Foot Luce was under whelming on the track only winning her maiden from 6 starts for Ken, Melissa and Nathan however her first litter of ten greyhounds is proving to be of exceptional quality.

Not only have the sisters made the Sapphire Crown final but their brother Texas Titan has drawn perfectly out of the red box in the Group 2 Harrison/Dawson final. He has already been placed at Group 2 level and with Jeff Britton also putting the polish on him the SA Bred greyhounds could have a big night on Thursday. Texas Titan is in race 8 due to start at 9.19pm (SA Time) with other notable greyhounds from the litter being the well performed Lord Vader and Footluce Diva.  If Texas Titan can claim the $100,000 first prize then Ken, Melissa and Nathan will also receive a $3,500 Super Bonus from GRSA as breeders of an Open Group 2 event.

Recently the Super Bonus has been an excellent addition for our local breeders with Karen Bearpark inline for $7,500 after the Group 1 victory of Tonk in the Golden Easter Egg final at Wentworth Park on April 19 and Barry Jones breeding Ernie Bung Arrow who won last years Adelaide Cup and pocketed him a cool $12,500.

Also at Sandown on Thursday night SA’s best stayer Luna Jinx, who is also SA Bred, will be taking on the best stayers in the land in the Group 1 heats of the Sandown Cup. She has drawn box 7 in race 5 due to start at 7.58pm (SA Time) and will need to find the rails early over the staying trip if she is to qualify for next weeks final. With four heats only the first two will qualify for the final so we wish Gavin Harris all the best and hopefully Luna Jinx can kick of a big night for SA Bred greyhounds.
