Romyn Dominates Again
The past week at the Bridge...
Tuesday (Straight Track)
It was a good day at the Bridge last Tuesday with the clear and bright conditions welcomed. The star of the show was no doubt Bec Romyn, as she continued her affinity with the straight track by taking home 5 winners from her 6 starters with Compulsory Hero just falling short to My Mum’s Value which would have given Bec the perfect day.
Bec’s first runner was a heavily punted first starter in Reel It In and as we have come to learn, when the kennel backs them they don’t miss! Reel It In showed plenty of speed to win in a quick 16.60. Hovey’s Return won the maiden final and Ransom’s Pride did as expected winning in 16.42 which gave Bec her first three. Zipping Sheba showed plenty of chase and determination in a fantastic win which continued her great start to her racing career before Agronomous rounded out the day with a classy effort over the 350m.
It was singles all round after the Bec Romyn show, with some nice times being run. Ransom’s Pride took home the BOD honours over the 300m, with My Mum’s Value taking home the 350m honours with a slick 19.22 effort.
Dog to follow: Zipping Sheba - Member of a crack litter in Sydney, and she is showing that she is pretty good herself. First couple of runs at Gawler have been improved runs with early speed on show. Her effort on Tuesday was enormous, coming out poorly with a 4.60 first split, but showed some serious class and grit to get to the front, before putting them away late in 16.80. Off what we have seen so far, I have no doubt she could go 4.40 early and clock a 16.50 run.
Thursday (1-Turn)
A slightly unusual timeslot with last week's meeting being run on Thursday twilight with the Adelaide Cup taking the Friday slot.
New Year's Tears started off proceedings for punters, he was heavily backed in the small field over the 680m trip. He didn’t look that good a thing midrace, but came home hard and landed his first win in 5 months.
We saw some classy types go around with the Puppy Championship winner in Basman doing the right thing off box 1 and clocking a 22.31 victory, before the favourite for the Oaks final in She’s A Hotshot started the shortest price favourite in Australia and won accordingly in 25.57. These two also took the time honours for the day.
Punters were pretty spot on throughout the day with Basman, Urana Meat Loaf, Stars Aligned and Power Burner all receiving heavy market support and doing the good deed.
Bidgee Boy handled the rise to the 455m trip with class as he went 25.71 in a stirring victory, which gave Lauren & Ryan 3 for the afternoon.
It was good to see some Mount Gambier flavour as well with Tracie Price making the trip down and he had a good day with a winner (very heavily backed) and a couple of seconds.
Dog to follow: Albuquerque - Came into the race on Thursday off the back of a couple really good efforts at the Mount. Certainly not much to write about from the run Thursday as he was only fair, but I am certain he was just feeling his way around as he looked pretty new and green to it. Hopefully get to see him come back next week and I am sure he will improve plenty!
