The $10,000 to the winner Doug Payne feature will be the showcase this Thursday night at Angle Park, with a super strong field of South Australian bred chasers assembled.

The Kirin Corby trained Southbound will certainly have his work cut out if he is to claim victory and upset the likes of Yarramundi Paul, Springvale Roxy and Springvale Max, particularly as he will be exiting from box four.

Southbound has had two starts since having an injury enforced month off, with both runs being promising efforts, as he hasn’t had a great deal of luck in both runs.

Corby is aware of the challenging task that awaits her chaser, but if he can repeat his personal best time of 30.60, then he will have some chance in the race.

“I thought it was quite good (his first up effort) after not being fit at all, he had only had one trial.” said Corby

“I thought it was alright (last start), just a bit steady through the middle. He got a bit held up.”

“He likes the rail, we haven’t had that many starts (with him), we’ve had a few issues.”

“Not much! (chance in the race), especially with box four but we will see what happens. As long as he doesn’t get hurt then it will be another good fitness run, because he’s a bit underdone at the moment.”

Tim Aloisi will unveil a newbie for his kennel in the form of Lochinvar Aloisi, who arrives with some handy New South Wales form. The white and black dog has shown plenty of strength in his previous racing, with his last five six starts all being over a middle distance.

It’s a reasonably strong grade 6 field that he will have to contend with on Thursday night, with box six no real help to his chances.

Whilst his previous runs did catch the eye of Alosi, it’s no surprise that his name also caught his interest when he first heard it, which has been part of the reason that has led to the dog ending up in his care.

“I’m mates with Kevin Gordon who is the owner and early days obviously with the name I followed the dog, then I just said to Kev that down the track if you ever wanted to sell him just give us a call.” said Aloisi

“He looks strong, he looks like he’s a bit of an x-factor dog. He’s tardy early but does look to have a motor. For us we just thought the price was reasonable and he’s a grade 6 that can run 500-600m.”

“He’s a bit of a funny dog, it’s taken him a little bit to settle in so I’ve taken my time with him, he seems to be happy now so that’s the main thing.”

“I’ve given him a couple of trials and he’s gone pretty solid, he’s not flying but he’s going good enough.”

“I think he should be a 30.60 type at Angle Park.”

“He’s probably a hard dog to ever back, on ability he’s definitely good enough to win the race but when you’re tardy early and coming out of box six… First bend you know what’s going on. If he goes around untouched then I'd say he would go close to winning.”

Indy Ghost will make his South Australian debut on Thursday, after racing at the Meadows just a couple of weeks ago. The red and brindle dog has had a fantastic career thus far in Victoria, having 9 races and collected $61,000 in prize money.

He has joined the care of Ray Fewings, who always has a good eye for a dog. It’s a unique track the Angle Park circuit and it was the desire from Fewings to have a dog that would be suited to the track, in his kennel.

It will be a tough ask for the son of Droopys Jet when he lines up a fifth grade from box eight on Thursday, but if he brings his best form, then he will be in with a chance.

“I tried to buy him about two months ago, I was looking for an Angle Park dog.” said Fewings

“They really didn’t want to sell him at the time but a week or two back Tom Dailly rang me and said they would sell him if I wanted him. He’s an old dog, he would just get 500m, the last 20m is the worry for him. He’s a nice dog.”

“I haven’t had him for long at all, he’s a really quiet dog and doesn’t show much emotion. When I trialled him I was flabbergasted, he went absolutely mental on the lure and fell over and flattened himself.”

“It will be interesting, I think he’s a low grade 5 dog. He will be handy at Gawler and definitely over the 455m at Murray Bridge he will be useful.”

“He trialled just ordinary. The track was a bit slow, it was about a 17.80 run I reckon, if the track was alright.”

“I’m a bit worried about box eight, I don’t think he will get across. He’s a really good tight railer.”
