Brilliant Boots breaks Gawler 400m track record as Price enjoys big week.
What looked for the most part to be your standard Wednesday meeting at Gawler, took a remarkable turn when the 400m track record was broken in the final race of the 11-race program.
With a very even field contesting the mixed 4/5 race, it was the Nicole Price trained Boots which made a lightning start, going 8.54 in the first split and matching early pace with Go Go Snow who tried to cross from a wide draw.
Pulling away with clear running, Boots extended the advantage into the home straight and winning by four lengths from Long Gully Shack which ran on well into second.
However, it was the clock which surprised with Boots recording a 22.23 which is 0.04 seconds faster than the previous track record which was jointly held by Toby West and Avid Tyson who went 22.27.
The track record performance also continued an excellent recent run of form for Boots with the track record success a third straight win for Boots and career win number 15 from 48 starts.
Price grabbed a double on the Wednesday program, with Devil Energy grabbing a second career win with a 23.18 success from box seven over the 400m journey.
Another trainer who enjoyed an excellent Wednesday was Brenda Oakey, who grabbed a double with a pair of winners over the 400m trip.
The first was Sand Dragon, a first starter bred from former Adelaide Cup winner Hooked On Scotch overcame an awkward box five draw finding the lead after an early battle with Elegant Evie who tried to cross from box eight.
Sand Dragon was able to hold the rail and pull away winning by two lengths in 23.24.
The next race saw littermate Canungra Kid take out the maiden series final with another nice win from box five.
Away second behind Douglas Rose, Canungra Kid was able to keep in touch and when Douglas Rose shifted wide on the home turn, it was able to swoop through to claim the final and make it two wins from two starts.

Friday
Nicole Price’s excellent week continued on Friday’s 10-race program, with Price grabbing a treble to make it five winners for the week at Gawler.
The most impressive winner of the trio was Zipping Highland, who returned off a six-week break with an excellent victory over the 531m trip.
Away well, Zipping Highland was third on the turn but quickly moved through the field and going past Immense to win by a length in 30.64.
Sweet Soul was also a winner over the 531m trip taking out a grade six race in 31.17 while SA newcomer Warcraft completed the treble for Price with a 22.64 win over the 400m journey.
The best of the day time on Friday was another SA newcomer in What A Regret for trainer Ben Rawlings who won a grade five race over the 400m trip.
The former New South Wales chaser was first up since December but showed no signs of rust with a very quick 8.49 first split seeing it power over to the lead from box four.
After finding the rail, What A Regret continued to pull away winning by three lengths and the greyhound looks to be one to watch in the coming weeks.
