Rawlings double headlines Gawler to Angle Park series

Sunday’s 10-race program at Gawler was headlined by heats of a grade six series over the 531m journey which will lead to a final at Angle Park at this Thursday’s marquee Anniversary Cup meeting at Angle Park. It was the in-form Ben Rawlings kennel who continued its excellent run claiming two of the three heats with a pair of impressive winners.

The first was talented youngster Ferocious Ivy who led wire to wire to take out the opening heat in a time of 31.06.  From box one, Ferocious Ivy speared to the lead and opened a break to the first turn before fending off a challenge from Me Style down the back and pulling away again to win by five lengths.  It was career win number 11 at start number 19 for Ferocious Ivy and looks to be another promising runner in the Rawlings kennel.

Kaluna Chaos completed the double for the Rawlings team with a nice win from box eight in 30.88. Despite being away only fairly from the wide draw, Kaluna Chaos showed plenty of race smart staying up the track before crossing down and pulling away to win by six lengths.

The third heat was taken out by Ascend for trainer Kim Johnstone- who is also enjoying an excellent run with her team.  From box seven, Ascend was able to get over into second around the first turn behind the leader Somnambulist before powering past down the back straight and winning by three lengths in 30.94. Johnstone was also able to grab a double on the card with Flying Alonso producing a nice run from box four to take out a grade 5 race over the 400m journey.

The program opened an even grade 6 race over the 643m journey which was taken out at a big price by the Maddie Schulz trained Discrepancy. Away only fairly from box seven, Discrepancy was able to find the rail in the home straight the first saving ground and working through the field before opening up and winning by nine lengths in 37.80.

The closest finish on the card came in the open event over their 400m journey with Cash On Delivery just holding off the fast-finishing Paua of Silence by the barest of margins in 22.42. It made it 12 wins on the bounce for Cash On Delivery and will look to have the Murray Bridge Straight Track Cup in early May firmly in its sights!

Wednesday
Wednesday’s 12-race time-graded program was a tough program to find a winner with plenty of big odds winners but a couple of kennels were able to enjoy good afternoons.
Jack Trengove was one of those collecting a treble on the card including a pair of maiden winners.  The first was Dark Trace who got a run as a reserve from box one and was to just hold off kennel mate Archer Five.
The second winner was Archer One who also got a run as a reserve and showed plenty of speed from box five blitzing the field and winning 11 lengths in 22.81.
Cawbourne Joey completed the treble winning a 1–4 win race over the 400m trip from box two in 22.94.

Paul Fagan also enjoyed a winning Wednesday, grabbing a double in the heart of the program with a pair of nice winners.
The first was Aston Monica who showed plenty of early dash from the box one draw to find the lead early and with a bit of bumping in behind Aston Monica was able to get a kick and win by a length and a half in 23.08.
Spring Sophie completed the double crossing over from box seven as another runner showing plenty  of early speed  to open up an advantage and winning by three lengths.
