Tuesday (Straight Track)

It was a day with good results for a few up the Murray Bridge Straight on Tuesday with three trainers having a double on the card.

Darrell Johnstone, who has been doing a lot of racing recently at the straight, was the first one, with Hey Sisco and Lagoon Blue Eyes going really well in both of their wins. Hey Sisco is a real straight track guru and it showed on Tuesday. He jumped particularly well with a 4.41 first split and was never challenged thereafter, as he strolled in for a super comfortable 16.68 victory. The next winner wasn’t as easy to watch for Darrell, with Lagoon Dark Eyes getting onto the winners list for the first time in SA, winning by a nose in the four dog field. He drew perfectly in box one, but was outpaced early by a couple of his rivals. Approaching the finish line he started to put in the big strides and was able to just get in front at the right time, clocking 16.75.

Nicole Price brought a strong team to the track, and enjoyed success in doing so. Patched was a fantastic winner for Nicole, with a sizzling 16.51 BOD win the fast class race of the day. He didn’t lead the race initially, as Up There Billy fired out in a flying 4.35 first split, however the midrace speed of Patched was far too much to handle, as Patched got himself in front just before the line and won by a half length. Her other winner was Spring Pony who was having his crack at the straight track off the back of some ripping Angle Park runs. Given his 38kg frame it appeared as if the track would suit and that it did. He only jumped fairly before moving to the outside rail, but he was able to click through the gears and get himself in front before winning in a respectable 19.41.

Marty Doyle also had a terrific day taking out a race to race double with Flora Colossus and Satanic Boy. The win of Flora Colossus was most impressive, upsetting a raging hot favourite in the form of Enthusiastic. Flora Colossus did everything perfectly on Tuesday, which he had to do. He jumped well with a quick 6.86 first split, before holding the rail with the midrace challengers. Approaching the line he continued to be strong and was able to hold off Enthusiastic to win by a length in a BOD 19.04, a fantastic win! Satanic Boy then won the next race in what turned out to be a three dog thriller! He drew wide and was last early, seemingly in a bit of strife, however mid race he was able to get going and powered home to just get up by a nose.

Dog to follow: Raskolnikov - It was a fantastic win from the fawn dog as he took out the maiden final. He was well backed on debut and was slightly unlucky, but was able to amend on Tuesday. After leaving the boxes he was half tripped over and then found himself last on the rail. His true ability shone through as powered home to pick up the leader and win super impressively in 17.07. He’s clearly got some ability and you will  do far worse than following him as he progresses.

Sunday (1-Turn)

It was a nice evening for the 11 race card at Murray Bridge on Sunday.

The big winner on the night was Tony Rasmussen, who picked up three winners from the team he brought down, along with Lisa Rasmussen who scored a winner too. The first of Tony’s three was Nitro High, who finally broke his maiden after some handy efforts previously. He had to do it the hard way after settling towards the back early, but was good enough to make his way through some midrace traffic. In the home straight he barged his way to the front before hanging on for a 1 length victory. Canya Thunder was the next as he overcame box five. Again, he found himself last early with plenty to do, but he was good enough to rail hard before powering home and picking up the leader in 22.86. The highly promising Queen Of Scotch completed the trio, with a fantastic all the way win over the 455m trip in a slick 25.48!

Weblec Pearl made her first venture to the 680m trip after some recent runs against much stronger opposition. She wasn’t given much of a hope in the market and rightfully so given the battle she was up against just to deal with box 8, let alone her first go at the longer trip. How foolish we were, as Weblec Pearl found the rail early and parked herself just behind the leading group. She was looking quite dangerous up the back straight and sure enough as they turned for home she put on the turbo mode, very quickly putting a big space on the others. The end result was a brilliant 39.23, winning by a big margin! She may well have found her calling.

Lauren Harris also had two winners on the card, with Jazzy Minter and Finniss Redeem both getting the jobs done. Jazzy Minter, who had been in excellent form prior to Sunday, dropped down to the 395m trip for the first time, but handled it really well. She jumped evenly, but her pace and class was a bit much for the others as she worked her way to the front, before running away with a 22.55 victory. Finniss Redeem completed the double, going all the way in 25.79. It was a good effort from the blue dog who had been racing well previously, so the win was very well deserved.

Dog to follow: George The First - Been going super since returning from a spell and on Sunday he jumped better than he had been. He was still outpaced after that and resented pressure to his outside, which meant he found himself rearward. He is still showing plenty of strength however and it showed again on Sunday when he was able to work his way through the field before running a nice second. No doubt he will be winning again shortly.
