This weekend will mark the running of the time-honoured Waterloo Cup, to be run at Virginia. The event is a significant race on the SA calendar and one that attracts the best coursers from around the state to compete. Bec Romyn has been an avid supporter of the coursing at Virginia and this weekend she will be taking a team to compete for the Waterloo Cup, which is headlined by Ransom’s Pride. It will be a unique experience for the big 35kg chaser, having never competed at the coursing.

“He has trialled there but not raced, which may be his downfall” said his trainer, Bec Romyn.

Ransom's most recent form has been terrific, with a dominant victory last start on the Murray Bridge circle, before a closs miss to the straight track specialist, Star Jiggs.

“He’s going good! Last start on the circle was great after he got dragged down, I was rapt with it!”

Whilst Ransom’s Pride has shown exceptional ability up the straight track, coursing will provide a new challenge to him, but Bec has no concerns.

“He pulls up good after a run, he will go fine and he will be a good dog for the back up.”

The week leading up to it looks no different for him, with a standard lighter week in between.

“He will just go on the walker this week, we won’t run him in between now (Tuesday) and then.”

Some winners of the annual event include, Westgate Girl, Cease To Panic and Clifton’s Mate.

It promises to be a ripping edition of the Cup, with fields to be released this Wednesday.
