Racing returns to Tara Raceway
After missing a meeting due to last week’s state-wide lockdown, racing returns to Tara Raceway on Thursday afternoon with a solid 12-race program.
With heats of the Williams Crane Hire Christmas Cup (512 metres) coming up in a couple of weeks there will be plenty of interest in the Trackside Meats Open Stake (512 m) for Open class greyhounds.
Rotate, owned and trained at Portland by Robert Halliday, will be chasing his third successive 512 metres win at the track. And last year’s Mount Gambier Cup winner Galactic Athena returns to Tara Raceway for the first time since early August when she won the Tara Trackstar No. 1 for Worrolong trainer Steve Bartholomew.
Adding further interest to the race is Dean Fennell’s Glencoe-based greyhound Perseverance, currently leading Dyna Carnie – engaged in Thursday’s Bourne Kennels Stake (400 m) – by one point in the Mount Gambier Greyhound of the Year.
And with Rough Pearl, Bay Me, Elle Limes and Saint Maddie also in the mix, this should be an action-packed race.
Rotate’s litter brother, Local Brew, also owned and trained by Halliday, was an impressive grade five winner over 512 metres back on October 29 when clocking 30.18 seconds. Now back in that grade again after a couple of outs in open company, he looks well suited this week in the Produce Store Stake.
Also appearing to look well suited in the Greyhound-Data.com Stake (512 m) is the Tracie Price trained High Fly Emma, the white and black bitch finishing strongly in recent starts over 400 metres.
Boosting nominations this week at Tara Raceway is Monarto South trainer Tony Hinrichsen, back at the track for the first time since March.
Hinrichsen will be making the four-hour trip down with five runners, one of the most interesting being Szubanski Fury who has drawn box one in the final race – the South Eastern Hotel Stake (400 m).
Szubanski Fury, twice-placed at Tara Raceway, finished fifth at Angle Park last night over 388 metres. But at her previous start at Murray Bridge over 395 metres the brindle bitch was successful at odds of $101.
