TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

All participants must be very happy with the new increase in stake money.  We all know with our own bills & costs to get a Greyhound on the track never decrease across the board but atleast it has gone in the right direction and any bonus is a big positive to the industry.

Race 1 and we start the night off with a very open affair.  I will start with Just As Fancy as he loves a wide draw and appears well suited in this.  Danyo’s Luke will be rattling home along with Alderley Riot.  Box Up 1.3.5.7.

The 2nd on a huge 12 event card and there is pace from box 1 and 8 along with the 5 runner in High Market.  I am looking for a bit of value so have a wager on Dignified Lad out in box 6.  He can be hit and miss early but is more than capable when on song.  Box Up 1.3.5.6

The 3rd and he looks a special for mine and that is Kasai Warrior for the Jovanovic kennel.  He has been missing the kick of late and been storming home late to fill a place.  The draw appears a huge help and is my top pick.  Add in Boonoona Boy and a roughie in Ruby Swift for the minors.  Box Up 1.2.6.7.

Race 4 and Stews Mistake can be hit and miss on box rise but the wide draw is a bonus and he can skip straight to the front and win.  Mr Punting is another who is in the firing line and is a must for the top 3.  Box Up 2.5.7.8

Race 5 and I like one at good odds here and that is the Angela Modra trained Power Merc.  Forget his recent form as he is a cheeky chance.  Cash In Looper will start the punters elect and is a power house when on song.  Box Up 3.5.6.8

Half way through the night and we have race 6 a handy distance event.  It appears a 2 dog race but as we all know that can change over the 700m.  I will go with Manila Express down in box 1.  She can kick up and be very strong in the run home.  Spring Amanda has a heap of pace and will be the front runner and can’t be overlooked.  Box Up 1.3.7.8

The 7th and it is very hard to go past the well performed Fancy Rick.  He has the perfect draw of box 1 and has the pace to hunt up along the rails and will be hard to beat.  Senni Tony could be the smokey as he is in good form and will be flying home.  Add in the ultra-consistent Allen Illem.  Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 8 and how good is this event with 8 top quality sprinters who all have a big chance.  I am going with the widest runner in Emerley Senorita.  She can carve across and win at good each way odds.  The dangers and there are a heap of them, too many to name.  Box Up 2.5.6.8 in a great race.

The 9th and the two main chances are the 2 widest runners and they are Madam Crash and Young Gun McBain they will be the front runners and will both be hard to beat.  Velocity Sapphire is well drawn down in box 1 for a bold showing.  Box Up 1.3.7.8

Race 10 and this is a very tough race so let’s hope we are well in front by now.  I am starting to repeat myself and we will go with the box draw and that is Spare Wheel in the red.  All Silver has pace along with One Eyed Watto.  Box Up 1.3.6.8

Race 11 and this is a very open event again so well done to the grader, the main chances are Doona Bale and Red Line Lad.  Add in Bogie Classic and Velocity Lyrem for the pick 4.  Box Up 1.2.6.8.

The final event on a huge programme and we can go home on a winner with Zac Bale. He has the pace to lead and will take some catching.  Absolute Boss is well drawn along with Bogie Yates.  Box Up 1.2.4.5

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

In response to better than expected first quarter returns from wagering on South Australian greyhound racing product by national wagering operators, the Board of GRSA has resolved to make an additional allocation to industry returns for the current year.  With effect from November 10, the returns for Category 2 racing which currently includes Monday night meetings at Angle Park and Tuesdays at Gawler will increase by an average of 15% across all grades.  Allowing for the previous increases announced in July, this decision takes the total increase to industry returns in 2014-15 to more than $370,000 equating to 6% growth on the previous year.

Additional funding will also be provided to Strathalbyn, Mt Gambier, Port Augusta and the GOTBA to remove their dependence upon the charging of nomination fees for race meetings at those venues.  This initiative will not only satisfy a key objective within the 2012 Strategic Plan, but also reflects the Board’s belief that such charges represent an unreasonable burden on our participants.  On the basis of the current arrangements, the removal of nomination fees will result in an annual saving of $50,000 to participants at those venues.

Changes to category 2 stakemoney and the removal of all nomination fees will take effect from Monday 10th November, 2014. Details available from GRSA.

2014 $10,000 DAISH IRRIGATION & FODDER STRATHALBYN CUP HEATS ON SUNDAY
The Southern Greyhound Raceway will run heats of the 2014 Daish Irrigation & Fodder Strathalbyn Cup this Sunday. The Club received 24 nominations for the Cup and as a result will run 3 heats on Sunday.

The heats will feature many chances all vying for a spot in the final led by the Troy Murray kennel with 7 nominations including in form greyhounds Kalden Kapone, Lannister and Cash In Looper. Troy won the cup with Kalden Mayhem in 2011 and Sometimes Speedy in 2012. Last years winner Victa Victoria is back to defend her crown for Ron Schadow and Lauren Harris has a strong hand with Blue Viper and Charter. Last start Angle Park winner Woodnear for Paul Barry looks hard to beat along with Apocal Bale for Lisa Rasmussen.

The first two from each heat and the two fastest third placegetters will qualify for the final with the slowest third placegetter and fastest fourth placegetter declared reserves. Good luck to all connections.

Sunday’s race meeting is a Sky Racing 2 TAB Twilight fixture with racing commencing at 4.41pm, with the last of 10 races due to jump at 7.50pm. The Cup heats are races 6, 7 & 8 on the program, which are the final 3 legs of the Quadrella. As an added bonus for the oncourse patrons the GRSA Stewards will conduct the box draw after the heats have been completed, this could be after race 8 or more likely race 9.

The $10,000 final will be run on Sunday 16th November along with a $2,000 Consolation of the Cup (trainers must renominate for the Consolation). The $5,000 Country Cup will be another highlight on the program with Gawler representative Punishment and Mt Gambier representative Thanks Tubby and Bourne Again trialing before Sundays meeting in preparation for the Final.

*Nominations for the Strathalbyn Cup Final meeting close at 9.00am on Tuesday 11th November.

*Please note that due to Lew Newton being unavailable on Cup night due to hip surgery the Les Newton Trophy Grade 6 over 536m will be moved back to the 30th November when Les will be able to attend and present the trophy.*

NEW RED VESTS A BIG HIT

After terrific feedback from the Industry the new red vests are being distributed to all of our tracks to be used as the main apparel for participants. Participants are able to purchase their very own red vets for $20 however GRSA will still always have some available. These vets look very smart and come up particularly well on Sky Racing promoting SA Racing so with that in mind the long parade coats will be phased out of action with participants required to have a black or navy jumper available to be worn under the vests.

An implementation date for Red Vests to be the only apparel used will be advised shortly.

HOT WEATHER POLICY

A reminder to trainers with the hot weather coming to make sure they are aware of the updated conditions relating to the Hot Weather Policy. This policy is available on the GRSA website and also at the track.
