PEAKY Boo for trainer Ben Rawlings has punched its ticket to the Launching Pad Heats at Sandown in Victoria after taking the SA Launching Pad Final at Angle Park on Thursday night.

After clocking 30.29 last week, Peaky Boo entered the final as the red-hot favourite but didn’t have things his own way from his box seven draw.

The speedy Peace Belle for Robyn Mackellar led to the first post with a 5.24 first split with Lockaba Rocket, Senna Wick and Shipway also matching Peaky Boo to the first post.

Peace Belle held the lead around the turn and into the back straight before Peaky Book drew level before the home straight and found the front able to win by a length in 30.82.

Peace Belle held on to second place with an excellent run while Lockaba Rocket for Wendy Sebastyan ran into third spot.

It was career win number five for Peaky Boo and its fourth win in five starts in South Australia with its best time of 30.29 having the chaser firmly in contention for a place in the Eastar Match Race Series as well.

Speaking on the dais with Lachlan Stace post-race, trainer Ben Rawlings said he was pleased his young chaser was able to take out the race under pressure.

“I didn’t know how I thought he would go,” Rawlings said.

“He did it well, he had to work around dogs and you sort of forget that it is only his ninth start and he is still learning and working out how to go around dogs.”

“He is obviously high speed when he is on the lure by himself, but he did well to get around the field and win the race.”

With its fourth win in five starts, Peaky Boo is looming as a chaser on the rise in South Australia and Rawlings said he will go in confident after taking out a difficult race in a full field on Thursday night.

“You go into a race like this (SA Launching Pad Final), and you know its not going to be a walk over,” he said.

“With him still learning, it is good that he can race in these races where he has to go in and outside of dogs and learn how to race.

“I am thrilled to have him, he’s a handful. He is learning and he is still immature, but he is pretty good and some good people are involved so to have a good dog like this, it’s really exciting.”

Peaky Boo’s success was  one of a treble of winners on the card for Rawling with Psychotic Babe taking out the masters in 31.05 and Rocamora winning a 342m event.

Ravers Army lays a match-race marker.

Last year’s National Sprint Championship representative Ravers Army made it back to back victories with an impressive win to take out “The Munchenberg” Open event on the card.

The race named for an Adelaide Lutheran football club representative and with a healthy representation from the footy club on course, they saw Ravers Army get close to his best with an excellent box one victory.

Away only fairly, Ravers Army was able to force a run through on the rail and showed plenty of strength and getting away to win by three and a half lengths in 30.46 ahead of Victa Marli who rattled into second spot.

The 30.46 time gets Ravers Army firmly into contention for a place in the Eastar Match Race series and will be one of the key chances if he can force his way into the field.

The win for Ravers Army capped a good night for Aloisi who made it two straight weeks with a double after kennel newcomer Triu
