Sunday night greyhound racing returned to Gawler this week and we saw a 12 race program at the venue. Angaston trainer Paula Hearnden had a massive night overall. She left the race meeting on Sunday scoring three winners for the evening. Her night started in race two when she won the Open Maiden Series Final with her young greyhound Long Gully Bret. He has only had the three starts but has a pretty good overall strike rate. He has now won two of his three starts and he also ran a new personal best of 23.12 last night which was one of the quickest runs of the night.

Paula’s domination continued in race eight when Turbo Raider led all of the way from box one. He ran a pretty slick time of 23.26 and it was also his first win since early November. In race nine Paula finished off the night with a bang when the three greyhounds she had engaged in the race ran first, second and third. The winner of the race was Long Gully Jimmy who led all of the way and ran a time of 23.20. Long Gully Lisa ran into second placing from box eight while Long Gully Roger wasn’t too far away in third placing. Paula was visibly happy after the race and took a photo with her two handlers Jayde Hurley and Sharyn Gray.

Steven also took out race eleven with Zipping Abilene winning over 531 meters running a time of 31.33 which was the quickest time over that distance for the night. Popular trainer Lucky Lester Harris also got a winner when his greyhound Little Wine led all of the way from box eight.

Racing returns to Gawler on Wednesday afternoon and on Boxing Day this week. Make sure you head up to the Nixon’s Function Centre on Sunday night for a quality evening of Greyhound Racing action.
