Wednesday
Vadim Roz got the Wednesday program underway with Techno Kelli breaking through for her maiden victory. From the 400m starting boxes, she came out well, which she had been doing in recent starts and this time she was able to find a clear lead.
Down the back straight, she had extended her lead and was in complete control of the race before she strolled home for a big five length victory in 23.48. That win was the last for Vadim in South Australia for a while as he is heading off to New South Wales to continue his training career.

Karen and Mike Wittholz combined for a double on Wednesday with two very nice winners. Legendary Value was the first and did a fantastic job to overcome box seven over the short trip. After being a tad slow to go early, she quickly mustered around the outside and zipped her way to the lead. Her acceleration was very sharp and allowed her to set up a good margin mid-race. Towards the end she started to slow but had done enough to win in 22.93.

A reward for persistence came through for their next winner, with Little Franky finding himself back in the winners list for the first time since March, after he made the most of box one over the 400m distance. A slow start had the black dog on the back foot early, but he quickly balanced himself up and made ground, sticking to the rail like glue. Before the home turn, he had worked his way to the lead. In the home straight, he had a big fight on his hands, but just did enough and won by a nose in 23.10.

Sunday
On a pleasant Sunday afternoon at Gawler, we had 11 races programmed.

One of the features for the night was the final of the Open Maiden Series over the 400m distance, which went the way of the Kim Johnstone trained Bow Edition. After winning dominantly on debut the week before, he started a red-hot favourite from box two for the final. He started well, but so did Mischka Molly from the outside, with Box Edition having to show some tenacity to hold the lead. After a bit of bumping, he held the lead and quickly accelerated away. Down the back, he had a healthy margin and that didn’t change, as he held that margin throughout to win by a few lengths in 23.15.

Betty’s Baklava has made a great return to racing for Paul Turner and continued her form with a gutsy victory from box eight over the 400m trip.  She was very slowly away and found herself last early, with plenty of work to do. Despite this, she accelerated well down the back straight and moved into a close second before taking the lead on the home turn and winning by half a length in 22.98.

The Steven Brook trained Zambora Blaze continues to impress and she took out a grade 6 over the 531m distance on Sunday. From box six, she came out quickly and landed in second as they went into the first turn. Despite losing a couple of lengths on the turn, she round down the back straight and proved too strong for the field winning by seven lengths in 30.86.
