OPTIC SHIMMER SHOOTING FOR 10 STRAIGHT AT GAWLER

The focus this Tuesday will turn north to the Gawler track where Optic Shimmer will be shooting for her 10th win in a row.

Owned and trained by Robyn Mackellar, Optic Shimmer has been in terrific form since coming from New South Wales winning all her 9 starts in South Australia.

She came to SA with two wins over the short 320m at Wagga in her first 8 starts however since being in the Festival State she has gone from strength to strength. Her string of wins started on debut at Gawler over the 400m on 12th April where she led all of the way in winning by 10 lengths and showed she was blessed with plenty of talent. It’s a credit to her trainer Robyn Mackellar who has been able to get the best out of her and stepped her up to the 515m with ease running sub 30 seconds over the 515m at Angle Park in her last four wins.

Robyn is no stranger to having a star greyhound in her kennel in recent times where last year she put the polish on 2014 Greyhound of the Year finalist Cairnlea Layla owned by members of the Power Power team including coach Ken Hinkley.

Optic Shimmer is engaged in race 8 at Gawler on Tuesday due to start at 2.12pm (SA Time) however she wont have it all her own way with reining 2014 Greyhound of the Year Wild Soul drawn right next door in box 3 who will be improved by his first run in 4 months last week and recent Group 2 Bulli Sprinters Cup finalist Aston Wingard in box 7 who has high speed.

On form one would suggest that Optic Shimmers 10th win in a row is just a formality by jumping to the front as she has done in most of her races and blowing the opposition away. Even to get a chance at 10 in a row is a huge credit to her trainer and her ability and all SA fans will be hoping she can get the elusive 10 in a row.

If successful it will be a rare feat that two SA greyhounds have been able to achieve this within the last few months with Kalden Legenda trained by Ben Rawlings bringing up 10 in a row last month.
