Menzel Boys wins 2016 Breeders Prelude Final
A big crowd was in attendance at Angle Park last night the day before the Easter Long Weekend and they enjoyed some exciting racing. The two features on the night were the 2016 Breeders Prelude (1) final and the inaugural running of the 2016 Easter Cup final for the middle distance greyhounds.
Both fields had some of the states most exciting chasers involved and were keenly contested affairs.
In the Breeders Prelude (1) Final Menzel Boys named after the AFL footballing brothers continued his terrific form with a strong performance where he lead throughout most of the journey holding of the challengers. He ran a handy 30.04 defeating Sheeza Nitro and Dakota Barbie in a stirring contest. Menzel Boys record now stands at 24 starts for 9 wins and 7 placings with around $13,000 in stakes. The Rasmussen kennel had a terrific night with Lisa winning with Menzel Boys and Tony running 4th in the Group 2 Launching Pad at Sandown with Hukanui and whilst Hukanui did not win he was terrific in defeat and did SA proud on the big stage.
In the Easter Cup final reigning greyhound of the year Gun McBain took his record to an amazing 41 wins and 25 placings from 89 starts with prizemoney just below $100,000. He defeated Von Dousa and Dyna Quote when he was able to lead throughout and run a sizzling 34.94 for the 600m journey. The Easter Cup has been added to the feature calender for 600m greyhounds and it is hoped it will build in the future to be a much sought after event to be run at Easter each year.
