GRSA Raises $16,000 for Operation Flinders

Greyhound Racing South Australia’s (GRSA) partnership with locally based charity, Operation Flinders Foundation, supports funding of wilderness treks in the far northern Flinders Ranges for young men and women who have been identified as being ‘at risk’.

During the month of April, Greyhound Racing South Australia (GRSA) donated $250 on every occasion that the Number 1 (red rug) dog won a race at any meeting across South Australia, resulting in $16,000 being raised for Operation Flinders.

Grantley Stevens, GRSA Chairman, expressed his excitement about having raised such a significant contribution to go towards the Operation Flinders program funding.
“There is no denying the importance of having corporate support for charitable organisations such as Operation Flinders and we have seen first-hand the positive impact that such a contribution has on a number of young South Australians.”

“I was fortunate enough to travel to Yankaninna Station recently, in the far northern Flinders Ranges, to immerse myself in the Operation Flinders experience which is made possible through the support of corporate partners like GRSA.

“The experience was both eye-opening and encouraging, and GRSA are proud to not only have raised the funds, but to continue to play a role in supporting such a wonderful program.”

Operation Flinders is a South Australian based charitable organisation that runs a world leading outback early intervention program for your people at risk. The program takes participants aged between 14 and 18 on an eight-day wilderness trek in far northern Flinders Ranges.

The organisation is dependent upon the partnerships that it forms with South Australian businesses. The ongoing support that it receives through those organisations enables it to offer life-changing opportunities to more than 500 young people annually.

Operation Flinders CEO John van Ruth says “We are very grateful for the generous contribution received from Greyhound Racing SA. This donation will financially support a combined team of students from Beafield and Cowandilla Learning Centres who will undertake the program this month.

“Operation Flinders believe every young person deserves the opportunity to be the best they can possibly be, and this is made possible via support from Greyhound Racing SA who give back to the local community.”
