Major traffic change South Road
The construction of the South Road Superway includes a new roadway underneath the elevated structure. To maintain traffic flow and access to businesses on South Road while construction is underway, the roadway is being reconstruction in two halves.
In February 2013, traffic on South Road between Grand Junction Road and Kateena Street was moved to the western side of the roadway to enable construction of the new road on the eastern side. This work is almost complete and traffic will be moved to the new section of roadway so construction can begin on the western side.
From 6.30pm on Sunday 12 May all traffic on South Road between Grand Junction Road and Days Road will travel on the new southbound carriageway. This section of road will continue to be one lane in each direction.
Motorists are reminded that the area is a construction zone and the speed limit is 40km/h. Drivers should take extra care when driving through the area and take note of changes around intersections of Angle Road, Kateena Street and Days Road. This includes:
- The left in, left out turning movements at Angle Road will be maintained. It will not be possible to turn right at this intersection.
- The right turn from South Road to Kateena Street will be maintained, however the queue length will be shortened.
- In line with the final design of the project, the right turn lane from South Road to Days Road will be located on the eastern side of the pier.
All usual turning movements at the intersection of Grand Junction Road and South Road will be maintained with these changes.
This traffic change is expected to be in place until Sunday 30 June 2013*.
Night works
Each night between 6.30pm and 6.30am traffic is detoured from South Road between the Port River Expressway and Grand Junction Road while construction of the elevated roadway continues. At night, access to the Caltex Service Station on South Road is via Davis Street and Francis Road. At times southbound traffic on South Road is also detoured between Grand Junction Road and Regency Road to enable night time constructionactivity.
