Local wins for Wimmera trainers
Laharum trainer Jeff Guy reports that Fugacious, a daughter of Fernando Bale x Dark Smiffy, is still on track for the Mount Gambier Cup after two 512 metres March wins at Tara Raceway in 29.66 seconds and 29.70 seconds.

Guy, an Adelaide Crows supporter, was at Tara Raceway on Sunday with Fugacious’s younger half-brother Sloane The Crow (by Kinloch Brae) who was having his first start at the track after two previous runs at Horsham.
And the Guy-bred brindle dog led all the way from box two in the Rock’s Tavern Maiden Stake (305 m), eventually running out a 1¼ lengths winner over perennial placegetter Saint Eilish in 17.96 seconds.
Bill Hartigan of Horsham landed his first winner as a trainer at Tara Raceway since Delusional Fab in November 2019 when Aston Helena found the front down the back before running away to a 2½ lengths win over Golden Lester in the JB Irrigation Maiden/One Win Stake (512 m) in 30.36 seconds.
According to Hartigan, the progress of the daughter of Fernando Bale and Aston Upton had been hampered by seasonal issues. Sunday’s win was Aston Helena’s first since last August when she was successful in a maiden event at Horsham.
“Apparently she broke-in very well and there’s no doubt she possesses plenty of ability. Getting it out of her . . . well, that’s another story,” he said.

Chloe Burner wrapped up a good month for the Worm Burner x Thanks Tubby litter when leading all the way to defeat Sonic Sammy by 3¼ lengths in the Winmore Greyhound Kennels Stake (512 m) in a personal best time of 30.11 seconds.
All told, the litter won six races for the month at Tara Raceway – Chloe Burner, Alpaca Delilah and Bourne Burner all winning two races.
Also enjoying a good month was Moorak couple Jason Newman and Melissa Freitag who race Alpaca Delilah and Thursday, March 25 winner Connie’s Entity, another one who had been hampered by seasonal issues.
