The first of the two wins came in the Dinky Di Web Designs Stake over the 400m trip. Tahni Bale crossed over from box 7 to lead Busta’s Rocket (4) and Hahn Bale (2), opening up a 5 length break on the rest of the field. The greyhound looked like it was in a winning position, but Redeeming (6), which had been the last out of the boxes and some 8 lengths from the leader, put in a spirited challenge around the back turn to nab the lead and go on and win by 2 ½ lengths from Hahn Bale (2) (Lisa Rasmussen) and Tahni Bale (Shaun Matcott).

In the following event, the Pets Tucker (Queens) Stake also over 400m, Jack’s Blue Girl from box 3 went narrowly to the front from Classic Ice (7) and Tricky Yoko (1). Classic Ice quickly took over in front, getting out to a break of 3 lengths down the back straight and was never headed, going on to win from Mornay’s Dream (2) (John Hancock) and Little Zippity (5) (Todd Kelly).

Redeeming and Classic Ice gave trainer Karen Wittholz an early double and both greyhounds are members of the Cosmic Rumble x Classic Concept litter, that were bred by Karen and husband Mike. Classic Concept was a former Gawler Trackstar winner and has thrown numerous winners over several litters, with these two runners being from her final litter.

Classic Ice has a good record, with 4 wins and 4 placings from 14 starts, while Redeeming has 2 wins and 7 placings from 22 starts. Redeeming’s slow race starts have been costly, with his first win coming just 2 starts prior to this win. The two greyhounds race in different ownership, with some owners common to both, but they were all pleased to end up with a good result for the day.

Two Wells based Kim Johnstone was the only other trainer to take out a double when Oxygen Bandit and Jeannie’s Gift both saluted the judge.

The regular schedule for Gawler is underway again, with racing every Tuesday afternoon, and the next Friday afternoon meeting being on the 20th and a Sunday twilight on the 22nd.
