‘Let’s Go’ Team Give Rees A Straight Track Double

Tuesday Meeting (Straight track)
John Rees had a terrific afternoon up the straight on Tuesday, landing a training double. Let’s Go Mary got the job done in the second race of the day, scoring in a thriller over the 350m distance. From box two, the white and black bitch came out well and found the front early and was striding out nicely. Halfway up, she still held a lead but the field was catching up to her and she was coming under pressure. Despite seemingly being about to be gobbled up, she just did enough to win by the barest of margins in a three way finish, clocking 19.71, as four of the field finished within a length of each other! John then had to wait until the last race of the day to complete the double, with Let’s Go Kay (Sister of ‘Mary’) producing a great effort to get the job done. Over the 300m trip, Let’s Go Kay stepped really well and crossed straight over to the front. Out in front, the black bitch looked terrific, as she flew along in the lead. She was never in trouble at any point, as she strolled home in a super slick 16.68. A nice day for John!

Ben Rawlings made a worthwhile trip up to the straight, also landing a pair of winners. Pet Detective was first and he made it a perfect two from two up the straight track, taking out a grade 6 over the short distance. A tardy start had the white and black chaser at the rear early, with plenty to do. A bit of luck midrace saw a big gap open for Pet Detective and he was good enough to rev up and take the gap, shooting to the lead with 100m to go and looking good. Towards the line, he stormed away and won very well in a handy 16.89. He definitely has a future! It was only a couple of races later that the highly promising Blue Blood made it 5 wins from 8 career starts, with a fast effort over the 300m trip. Despite being a tad slow to go from box two, the black dog very quickly rebalanced and flew through his gears, exploding the lead and blasting away, defeating the field by a widening 6 lengths in a fast 16.68. He’s a pretty nice pup!

Sunday Meeting
Pleasant conditions greeted participants for the Sunday evening program and their was some quality racing all round!

The homebred Terrific Izzy (Fernando Bale x Fantastic Shell) got the card underway for Liz Chegia, breaking her maiden in emphatic fashion over the 395m trip.  From box eight, the blue and brindle bitch came out quickly, accelerating to an early lead and putting a margin on the field into the first turn. After putting up a 5 length lead into the home turn, she looked to have the race covered, but approaching the line she did start to get weary. Despite this, she had done enough and won by a length in a handy 22.84. The super strong Fantastic Helga then won the next race for Chegia, getting the job done over the 455m distance, thanks to a fast finish. From box two, she came out of the boxes okay but had to settle towards the rear of the field, but with clear air in front of her. Around the turn, she stuck to the rail, before the run opened and she took it very quickly, getting to the front and winning nicely in 25.95, giving Chegia a perfect 2/2 for the night.

Don Turner was another to pick up a training double for the evening, with two rather impressive winners. Rolling Riot rolled into his 455m event with some excellent form and the hopes of overturning the hot favourite in Not For Profit. Things didn’t look great for Rolling Riot early, as he was pressured on the rail with Not For Profit exploding to an early lead. Working into the home turn, it took a while for Rolling Riot to fend off the pressure to his outside, but he was able to work his way into the clear around the turn and set his sights on the leader. The fawn dog looked powerful at the top of the straight and he continued to wear down the margin, before eventually getting past Not For Profit late, to claim a fantastic 25.91 victory. He’s in great form! Tara’s Girl then had box four to handle in the next race over the 395m trip. Not normally the most reliable beginner, she stepped pretty well and had herself near the speed early on. Heading into the turn, she looked a huge change, but ran wide as she went into the straight, which cost her a couple of lengths. Despite this, she rebalanced herself and flew late, getting up by whiskey in 22.59, giving Don a good night out.
