It was a cold and wet night at the Gawler Greyhound Track on Sunday night where we saw a busy twelve races. The wet weather didn’t stop the greyhounds producing some very solid times. The most impressive run of the night though had to go to Sunset Toxic trained by Lewiston trainer Ken Gill. Sunset Toxic lined up in race ten from box five. He was the odds-on favourite after some impressive runs up the Murray Bridge straight track. He bounced out well from box five and quickly found the lead in the early stages of the race. He careered away to defeat Boundin’ Baby by three lengths. He ran a super time of 22.61 which was the quickest time of the night by a mile. To run that sort of time on a wet track is very impressive. It will be interesting to see what sort of time he can run over the 400 at Gawler on a dry track.

The second winner for Ken Gill occurred in the race directly after Sunset Toxic’s win. Ken’s greyhound Hickory Monelli lined up in race eleven over 400 meters. He didn’t jump away the best from box eight but he recovered quickly and made up heaps of ground. He showed some very good closing pace to win by a head after missing the start. He ran a time of 22.83 on the wet track and completed a double for trainer Ken Gill. Nicole Price also had another big night on Sunday training a treble of winners. Spring Mayfield was her first winner running a very impressive time of 30.73 over 531 meters. Trivet also won for Nicole running a time of 22.84. Spring Bonnie rounded out Nicole’s treble when she led all of the way from box four to produce a time of 22.92.

We also saw greyhound racing at Gawler on Wednesday afternoon. Palmer trainer Michael Stewart would have some success in race six when Cosmic Kid stormed home from box eight to defeat Seymour Ando’s by a head. He ran a time of 23.32. Michael would strike again in race eight when his greyhound Plant Road would lead all of the way from one to run a time of 23.09. Master trainer Troy Murray also had some success on Wednesday when his greyhound Locked showed his best form to win over 643 meters and run a time of 37.99. Troy would complete his double when his greyhound Beatific led all of the way in the last race to run a strong time of 22.76 which was the best time of the day. Greyhound racing returns to Gawler on Wednesday afternoon and Friday afternoon this week. Don’t forget about the heats of the Gawler Produce which will be run on Friday the 10th of June.
