The past week at the Bridge…

Tuesday (Straight Track)

Dita Mitchell took out the first race of the 12 race card with the striking Locky’s Eagle putting in an improved run after some time off to win nicely. Dita has recently moved closer to Adelaide to work with the Ramussen team and this early success could be a sign of things to come.

Mark Giddings made another trip down to the Bridge with his strong team, and whilst he ran a few placings on the day, he did pick up a winner with Bingo Ringo saluting in the grade 6 final. Bingo Ringo came out poorly again like he did in the heat and had a few handy dogs in front of him, but in the last 50m he was dynamite, shooting through the gap and winning comfortably in 16.73.

Jack Trengove enjoyed another good day out at the straight track, claiming a race to race double with Belfast Rocket and Shrinking. Belfast Rocket was first up for Jack after moving from Western Australia, and he won with a grinding performance before Shrinking made it two in a row, getting up by a small margin.

Curls Victory went like a rocket on her way to a scoring 16.43 (BOD) victory. Starting an odds on favourite in the strong grade 5 contest, she gave her followers no reason for concern at any stage, leading with a slick 4.38 first split and never looking troubled after that. She’s only had the 1 failure up the straight, with the win on Tuesday really announcing her as a straight track weapon.

Dog to follow: Crackerjack Lach - This was an enormous win and arguably the run of the day. The end result was a 1 length victory in a steady 19.60, but that doesn’t do the run any justice at all. Crackerjack Lach was flattened as he came out of boxes, before getting flattened again 50m later. Not only was he able to stay on his feet, but to pick himself and tack on with the field, before powering away late was just remarkable. Hopefully we can see him come back to the straight because he looks like he enjoys it!

Friday (1-Turn)

With the Murray Bridge cup only a few weeks away, the racing is starting to get hotter and the 12 races on Friday was just that, with a few SA ‘newbies’ alongside a couple of better class dogs doing battle.

The first of the day was a belter, with a match race in the market between Mallee Magic and Impress Us. A clear ascendency was set early from Impress Us as he led with a slick 11.96 first split, leaving Mallee Magic with plenty of chasing to do. Mallee Magic was game the entire way, but Impress Us was just too good and never really looked like getting run down, as he went all the way in 30.03.

I thought the win of Stocky Brocky in the maiden was quite impressive. It was only a small field and he won at the shorts in a sound 22.75, but I thought the way he went about was really nice. It’s fair to say he’s a ‘railer’ and you don’t want to be drawn inside of him, but he’s got a good amount of pace/strength and chase, which is a good sign to see in a young pup. Not sure where he goes now but you can keep following him with confidence.

Dave Peckham enjoyed another outing at the Bridge, with a double from Aston Hayato and Denzell Bale. The former was really good at his first run on the one turn in quite a while, winning with a quick BOD effort (22.29). Denzell Bale was impressive as well. After being slowly away, he mustered hard over the short 395m trip to find the front. From there he was just too speedy, and won in a neat 22.44.

I loved the win of Hot Rocks for young Jack Trengove over the 455m trip. He hasn’t been in Jack’s kennel for long, but it is easy to see that he is enjoying his time with Jack, as he is currently chasing with great ferocity. He left the boxes fairly on Friday, but was able to land forward, before really putting on the afterburners midrace to take over from Didelis. It was race over thereafter and Hot Rocks went on to score in a very tidy 25.59.

Dog to follow: Danyo’s Charlie - He was very good behind Aston Hayato on Friday. After getting outpaced early, he ran off the track and it was essentially ‘race over’ from there. However, he was still able to smash the line and only finish a length behind Hayato. That was just his second run this year, but a clear sign that he is somewhere near his best.
