Jack’s Well a deserving 2021 GOTY
Jack’s Well has totally dominated the 2021 South Australian Greyhound Of The Year, winning with a perfect score of 35. The thoroughly deserving victory comes off the back of a year in which Jack’s Well displayed an amazing level of consistency and talent, having 36 starts for 17 victories and a Group 1, Adelaide Cup placing. His trainer - Cameron Butcher, is no stranger to having a ‘good one’, with the likes of Worm Burner, Coorong Lucy and On Fire, all having come through the Meningie kennels. A 1am bedtime was worth it for Cameron and his wife Yvonne, with a somewhat surprising victory in the eyes of the typically modest Cameron.
“I didn’t think he would win. I thought he would be up there though. I thought one of Schadows dogs would win (Victa Haydn & Grosso).” Said Cameron Butcher
“It’s always nice to win no matter who you are. It was quite good.”
Jack’s Well is out of a now superstar Brood Bitch - Molly Be Nimble, who was also responsible for throwing the pocket rocket - Coorong Lucy. Molly Be Nimble has a third litter by Barcia Bale on the ground and they are soon to be broken in. With the record she has now created as a Brood Bitch, these pups are certainly going to create interest
“Tim Richards has got half and we’ve got half. They are only younger, about 10 or 11 months. We will hopefully have one more litter with her.”
“You have just got to cross your fingers and hope for the best!” (In regards to the possibility of breeding another star).
As for Jack’s Well, he has only just turned three and still has plenty of racing ahead of him. Whilst he has been a bit off his best in the last few months, his most recent runs have been a lot more like what we’ve come to know from him. His most immediate assignment is this Monday at Angle Park.
“I’m hoping he will get better but I think he’s lost a bit, he was better when he was younger. He had his tonsils out and I reckon he hasn’t come back as good. He is improving though.”
An outstanding year for Cameron and Jack’s Well.
