Tuesday (Straight Track)

Tony Nobes continued his good work at the straight track, with another two winners on Tuesday. Venom Encounter, who has only just joined Tony’s kennel, made it two from two after his first look at the straight. He was backed first up and won nicely, then on Tuesday he faced a new challenge with box four for his first look at the straight. He was squeezed up early but was smart enough to get himself out of it, before finding the front mid race. After that he was able to hold on for a really nice 17.04 victory, he’s no star but he goes the right way about it! Deadly Redeemer then made it two for Tony after he took out race nine. He put in a very comprehensive performance, jumping well and leading comfortably the entire trip, winning in a handy 16.79. Well done Tony on another good day!

Jack Trengove achieved a feat that you don’t do every day, which was landing the trifecta of race 6! He only had three dogs in the race, and they ended up finishing in the order of Raptor, Immense and Witty. All three dogs ran well, but the most impressive was Raptor who was quite strong on his way to the 2 length victory in 16.89. Jack then took out the next race with the ever consistent Up There Billy notching up another win. He was in quite a strong race, but early speed proved the difference, as he led and then kept kicking, winning by 2 lengths in 16.64.

Ben Rawlings also had two winners on Tuesday, with the first being Gary’s Chaos, who enjoyed his run up the straight over 350m. He jumped well and pushed his way to the outside and despite doing a bit of work, he was just too strong for the others as he stopped the clock in 19.36. The promising Irene made it four wins from five starts, as she had her first look at the straight. She left the boxes brilliantly and just proved too pacey for the others, finding a clear lead and going all the way, untroubled in a handy 16.71. She’s improving with every run and might just turn out to be a very handy chaser.

Dog to follow: My Mum’s Value - The black bitch has returned from a spell in brilliant order. Her first up run last week was a cracker and then the second up run Tuesday was even better! She jumped well to find the early lead, before powering away late and running a hot 16.57 (BOD). Can always follow bitches in form and she will be continuing her winning ways with form like this.

Sunday (1-Turn)

Lauren Harris had a big night on Sunday, taking home three winners from the 12 race card. Hushing Dusk was first, with the black bitch continuing her impressive form. It was her first venture to Murray Bridge on Sunday and when she led easily from box two over the 530m trip, she seemed a good thing. Hitting the turn, she had a couple of chasers get right up to her and she looked in big trouble, however she was able to kick back and somehow hold on for a terrific victory. Jazzy Minter was next and it was arguably her best performance yet since coming to SA. She was fairly away but mustered beautifully to find the front. Once she was there they didn’t look like catching her, as she powered away for a very solid 25.57 run. Rasputin rounded the night off for Lauren, as he won his first start for her kennel. He led from box four and proved too tough and strong, defying the challengers behind him, eventually winning 25.75. Lauren has some fresh faces in her kennel now so it will be good to see how they continue to progress.

Yvonne King unveiled a couple of new ’Allinga’ dogs on Sunday, with Allinga Molly getting the job done at her first start. She was well in the market which suggested she might have some ability and she certainly showed that. She only jumped fairly but was able to work hard to get herself to the front. When she hit the front she continued to build a margin on the others, as she went on to win by a very handy 5 lengths in 22.95. Yvonne also had Allinga Grin win the last of the night, with the black bitch rewarded for some super consistent efforts recently. She led quite easily and built a nice margin hitting the home straight, but this week was different as she was able to hold off the fast finishers and get herself on the winners list! Well done to Yvonne on a good night.

Richard Stasiak made his way to the Bridge with just Elegant Bix, who went on to break his maiden quite nicely. He has shown a fair bit of ability at Angle Park already and he made the most of facing an easier field than he had been. He was outpaced from box seven, but was classy enough to deal with it and get himself to the front, before running away in 22.59. That was the second heat of the maiden series so he will line up again next week and I would suggest he will be a strong favourite.

Dog to follow: Wordsworth - Prepared by the very astute Kirin Corby, he had his first start in the maiden series on Sunday. He was very well backed from box four and it was pretty easy to see why. He left okay but found trouble early and had to go wide. Once he was there he started to make good ground but again had no luck and lost a few lengths. He was still good enough to run second and qualify for the final. He will definitely have a chance next week.
