The past week at the Bridge...

Tuesday (Straight Track)

Another ripping day weather wise as we had 11 races up the straight with some quality types going up. Market movers were in abundance with plenty of heavily supported favorites. Action Bronson was the first big mover of the day in the maiden, with Nathan Hughes bringing him to the track for the first time. He was $3 into $1.60 and won accordingly with a dominant 16.95. Hukanui Lady received plenty of support in her race, being $7 into $3.50 and was able to run down the in-form Coorong Cash in 19.37. One of the biggest moves in a while was for Compulsory Hero, which was $1.70 into an unbackable $1.15. It wasn’t an easy watch for punters as he was slow away, but did enough to score by a small margin.

Bec Romyn continued her ridiculous form at the straight track. She brought 4 runners to the meeting and of course all four of them won, which made it 10 winners from her last 12 starters up the straight - completely rude!

Time honours for the day went to Zipping Sheba over the 350m trip which looked a bit green, but was able to rundown the super fast Mister Mullet in 19.31, which is no easy feat! Bella Sweet and Hovey’s Bourbon shared the 300m honours, both winning in slick 16.76 efforts. Both are still young and have plenty of upside.

Dog to follow: Cyclone Jane - A bitch with a bit of upside, finished behind the quality Zipping Sheba after she made a mistake midrace and cost herself a couple of lengths and potentially the race. Won nicely at Angle Park the run before after a stint at Gawler. Just seems to be on a nice trajectory and can knock off a few grade 6s whilst in this form. Lobs in the grade 6 final this Tuesday and whilst it’s tough, she isn’t without a chance.

Sunday (1-Turn)

It was great to have racing at the Bridge on Sunday again, with the change due to the Gawler Cup heats being run on Monday.

Little Purpose (Aston Dee Bee x Purpose Driven) won the first of the evening with a classy debut effort, sitting outside another first starter in Spring Arlo (Spring Bridge x Sheeza Nitro) before putting him away with a 22.49 gallop. Victa Saige was able to use box 1 perfectly to lead all the way 29.94 which made it a double for Lisa Rasmussen.

Don Turner was able to land one of the biggest priced winners he’s ever trained, with In Trinity getting the job done at $81! It was a very strong race on paper and Spring Ammo was a heavily punted favourite, but with a bit of fortune midrace, In Trinity was able to capitalize and then pounce in the straight.

Steven Brook was able to land a double from his 3 runners. Rouge Player kicked things off for him with a really strong effort. He showed no pace and was a clear last early but used the big expanses of the 1-turn track to wind up and get over the top late in 25.76. Seymour’s Ando was his second winner of the 395m trip. He is a recent addition to Brooksys kennel and was heavily backed at his first start in SA at the straight before just missing, but made amends on Sunday as he went all the way in a sharp 5.05-22.42.

Greg Board landed double with Spring Flora and Spring Phoebe getting the jobs done. The former produced a grinding effort to run down Born To Rule in 22.53 over the 395m before a well backed Spring Phoebe put in a monster effort to win her race. She had box 1 and was slow away before trying to get wide mid race but had pressure on her outside and got strung up for a while. She eventually got out and gave Fleurieu Flyer 5 lengths around the turn, but caught her and sailed past in 22.64.

Bidgee Boy claimed the time honours for the short trip with a 22.24 effort, he’s been so good since coming here and Lauren Harris has done a ripping job with him. He’s very consistent early and when they run times that he runs, they don’t get run down often! Terrific Keith was the fastest of the night for the 455m trip, with a very easy 25.50 run.

Dog to follow: Spring Ammo - He was backed like he couldn’t lose on Sunday and that says a bit when they are in a strong race! It was an enormous run, finding heaps of trouble mid race before still coming again late and missing by a length. Can butter up on him with confidence as he will be winning next start.
