MEDIA RELEASE – “HOWARD ASHTON” BREEDERS 2013 SERIES

The main race in the Breeders 2013 series kicks of this Wednesday at Angle Park with 7 exciting heats of the $36,000 Group 3 “Howard Ashton.” Known in the past as the SA Breeders Plate the series will now carry the name of AGRA Life Member Howard Ashton after a recent name change. There have already been two prelude series run and won of Breeders 2013 with Victa Brooke for Ron Schadow claiming the first prelude and Fire Tyson for Tony Lagana brilliantly winning the second prelude.

The first heat on Wednesday feature’s a potential topliner in the nicely bred Token McLaren (Token Prince x Stevie McLaren) (box 4) who continues to make rapid improvement with brilliant run home sectionals to blitz his rivals. His last two runs have produced sizzling victorie at headquarters in 29.85 and then 29.67 and whilst not the quickest beginner only bad luck will see his colours lowered on Wednesday. Eachway chances have to be given to the lightly raced High Status (box 3) for Ossie Chegia who has won 2 from just his 3 starts and Victa Nicole (box 7) from the Ron Schadow camp.

Heat 2 will see Avid Tyson start favourite from box 8 however she has to be a risk yet again over the 515m. She is absolutely brilliant over the 388m and 400m at Gawler but is finding the extra trip a little testing. She has won 18 races from her 41 starts and is all class and if Tony Lagana can get her firing again she will be hard to toss. The upset greyhounds are either From The Top (box 2) for Jan Jones or Victa Scott (box 3) for Ron Schadow. Both can run home hard so look for them getting over the top of the Lagana flyer in the home straight.

Heat 3 looks a wide open affair with likely favourites Cosmic Way (box 6) for Leonard Wilson and Carlos Tyson (box 8) for Tony Lagana drawn a little awkwardly. Cosmic Way has been very disappointing recently and just seems to find ways to get beaten. He desperately needs the rails and from box 6 he may find himself well back. Carlos Tyson has been racing very well against stronger company however from the pink box again he could find himself with plenty to do if he doesn’t begin well. Value in this race is the 3 Plaza Suite for Jan Jones and last start Angle Park winner Power Merc (box 4) for Rob Harnas who could pinch the race. Anything from the Stamenkovic camp should also be kept safe and Kid Faust (box 2) even though he’s a maiden has shown potential in all his runs to date.

Heat 4 does look a one act affair with the Troy Murray trained Emerley Lover (box 8) likely to start a very short priced favourite. He is flying at present and capped of his preparation for the series with a sizzling 29.80 victory last Thursday night at headquarters.

He won by panels of fencing last start and he should do it again. Eachway chances to Joja Stan (box 2) and Tyson Willow (box 7) with Yabby Creek (box 4) one for the First 4 players.

Heat 5 looks a really nice race with plenty depth however Victa Nicole (box 8) for Ron Schadow should have the class edge on her rivals. She has won 13 races from 26 starts and looks the testing material. The undefeated Lylas (box 4) trained by Bosco Stamenkovic looks a handy prospect but is stepping up in company and Just Crazy (box 3) for Des Hockley is always around the mark in these type of races. Mclaren Prince (box 7) for Tania Foster is the brother of Token McLaren from the first heat and, whilst he hasn’t forged the same reputation as his litter-mate, he has a very powerful finish and with a clean run early he will be flashing home at the business end.

Series favourite Fire Tyson (box 3) steps out in heat 6 and it should be a walk in the park for the Tony Lagan trained star. He won two starts ago in 29.84 and then ran second last start in strong FFA company at headquarters. He is one of the best sprinters in the state and he should add to his 17 wins to date. However he will have stiff competition as there is a new greyhound in the Ossie Chegia kennel with outstanding form to his name. Flying Tee (box 4) has been racing at Albion Park and recently ran a good third in the Queensland Derby behind the flying Hello Good Bye. He has won 4 races in 10 starts and should be kept very safe in the market. Keep an eye on the red runner, Cosmic Encounter for Bosco Stamenkovic who debuted last week with an all the way victory in a Maiden Event running a handy 30.46. She is nicely bred by Cosmic Chief and Something To Be and should be improved by her first race start.

The final heat also has interstate interest with former South Australian Nicholas Jack (box 2) dominating the local Tasmanian racing scene recently for trainer Edward Medhurst. He is rated one of the best dogs in Tasmania with wins over star chaser Rewind and has been starting a  short priced favourite in Invitation class events. Owned and Bred in South Australia he will be looking to add to his 11 career race victories. Footrot Flare (box 4) for Bosco Stamenkovic could give her trainer a big day with a win if she can remain undefeated after an easy first up win last month. She showed brilliant early speed that day and recorded a flying 30.24 so she has to be respected. With chances to Zara McLaren (box 1), Red Tin (box 5) and Pandora Kist (box 7), the last heat looks an absolute cracker.

The first heat will be run at 1.19pm (SA Time) with the final heat race 8 run at 3.04pm (SA Time). With only the first three from each heat and the three fastest fourth placegetters qualifying for next Thursday’s  three semi finals, the racing will be tight and tough.

The $36,000 Group 3 Howard Ashton Final will be run at Angle Park the following Thursday on May 30th
