History making dual-track Murray Bridge Cup meeting
Murray Bridge Greyhound Racing Club will host an historic race meeting this Sunday night, with the Murray Bridge Cup set to be run alongside the first ever dual-track meeting. The Murray Bridge Straight Track will host the first two races of the program, before the racing switches to the one turn track. The meeting is an absolute beauty with 12 cracking races, which includes a 395m and 530m special event. These races will be followed by the Cup Consolation and of course the Murray Bridge Cup itself.
The two Straight Track races are heats which will lead into a $3000 to the winner final. The first heat will see the returning My Name’s Craig lock horns with short course bomb Man Absconded. In heat two the flying Curl’s Victory will start a deserved favourite ahead of the electric He’s On Fire.
Race 4 is the short course feature with a few rockets set to do battle, including Aston Hayato, Classy Chaos and Beatific, who is fresh off a Cup heat run last week. Gemtree Maximus has come up with an ace draw in the race with his preferred box 8, outside of Beatific who will be hunting for the fence.
The 530m feature is red hot, packed with some quality South Australian Chasers. With the tricky bend start and wide runners drawn in 2,4 and 5, the race may just open up for the Tim Richards trained Two Hands George, who has the inside box.
Race 6 is the Cup Consolation and has brought together a really nice field. Mepunga Mustang and Don’t Tell Bluey aren’t exactly drawn great, however they both produced terrific runs in the heats, and I reckon they will take some beating in the Consolation.
The much anticipated Daish Irrigation and Fodder Murray Bridge Cup, which is a Group 3 race worth $26,000 to the winner, will be run at 7:46pm local time. It’s an unbelievably even race that has every dog a genuine chance of winning. A real fairytale success story would be if Spring Vinnie can take it out for Bob Fletcher, who has been having a super run of things lately with his team. South Australian trainers Ben Rawlings, Ozzie Chegia, Troy Murray and Cameron Butcher will all be taking runners for the final, in an attempt to keep the Cup in South Australia. Personally I think Weblec Jet is the best chance in the race with a good draw, but it’s a completely open race.
With a mix of quality graded races on the card, it promises to be a terrific night on a history-making evening at the Bridge. The first race will be run at 5:12pm and the last will take place at 9:08pm.
Best bets
Race 3, Number 4: Astonia Rose - Looks one of the bigger locks for the night. She was brilliant on debut, breaking the 5 second first split with ease. Will lead and none of these will catch her.
Race 7, Number 2: Spring Drama - Beautifully drawn hound that has had two runs back from a spell without an ounce of luck. Gets her chance here to return to form and hopefully at nice odds.
