GRSA Industry Director election process

 

Nominations for the role of Industry Director closed at 10:00am on Friday August 29 at which time the state branch of the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) had received complete submissions for four nominees who will subsequently contest the election commencing on Monday September 15.  Ballot papers will be distributed to eligible Licensed Persons in today’s mail. 

 

The AEC received three additional nominations in relation to which a supporting Candidate Profile had not been received by the close of the nominations process.  Those nominations have been deemed invalid by the AEC on which basis those Candidates are not eligible to contest the upcoming ballot process.  The letter to eligible Licensed Persons calling for nominations clearly stated the requirement for nominations to be supported by a Candidate Profile.  Unfortunately this was overlooked by some nominees, and GRSA is bound by the AEC’s ruling on this matter.

 

The GRSA Constitution requires the ballot process to be conducted by an external organisation such as the AEC and by scrutineers who are independent of the company.  Having regard for that independence, and in the interests of ensuring the integrity of the process, GRSA delegates full responsibility for the governance of the election process to an appropriately qualified external party.  On that basis, GRSA is obligated to remain independent of the process and to observe the ruling by the AEC and has no legitimate basis for intervening in this or any other aspect of the election process.

 

Accordingly, we have been advised by the AEC the list of nominations for the role of Industry Director and the order that they will appear on the ballot paper will be as follows:

Tony Hinrichsen

Ray Fewings

Christopher Doyle
