Price bags a quarter of winners at Gawler
t was a sensational Sunday night at Gawler for trainer Nicole Price who had four winners on the 12-race card in a impressive training performance.
Spring Mayfield was the first, breaking through in race four and winning from box two in a best of the night 22.65. It was its fifth run back from a three-month spell and given how good she was, its clear it is close to getting back to its best.
In race eight on the card, Velocity Zaylia made it two winners producing a smart effort from box three in the fast class race of the night. She jumped well, but didn’t have the speed initially to keep up, however she just kept trying and in the home straight was able to prove a bit too strong, getting over the top for a great 22.77 win.
Velocity Nikki was in the next race and she made the most of box one, winning strongly in 22.79, before Velocity Cinta capped off a sensational night with a barnstorming effort. She settled near last down the back straight, but smarts and strength got her home, as she peeled around them and just ran over the top to win in 23.09.
When Zambora Blaze broke through for her maiden win in the second race of the night, it certainly would have brought her trainer Steven Brook a great sense of pride, being a homebred chaser. Dropping back to the 400m distance and drawing box two for her first Gawler start, it mustered its way to the early lead and was looking really good out in front. Heading into the home turn, she shifted wide and looked a little vulnerable, but kicked again and was just too good, landing a terrific 22.96,
On a good night of racing, the Wayne Burge trained Bold Onyx was able to round out the card, with a surprise victory over the 400m distance. Jumping out of box seven, it was a better usual beginning which saw him land close early and not too far off the leaders. He was starting to pick up quickly as they went into the home turn and in the blink of an eye, he railed through to the lead, before winning in a handy 23.03!
Wednesday
It was a good afternoon at Gawler on Wednesday, for trainer Chris Jaensch, who picked up a training double. Far Out Lexi was first, and she drew well with box two over the 400m trip. Despite coming out well, she was led early but mustered hard to get into a good spot running second before swinging wide down the back straight and making her move, before going straight past and finding the lead. She ran away for a terrific 23.29 victory, which was a good reward for some consistent efforts.
Banana Girl took out the next race with a near faultless effort from box six, firing out to find an early lead. Down the back straight, she was challenged and looked vulnerable,
but was able to keep kicking and in the end get the job done nicely, winning in 23.13.
Steel Skies had its first trip over the 531m distance for trainer John Mundy and was able to win from box eight in an eye-catching performance. Drawing wide in box eight, it was able to steer clear of trouble on the first turn and swoop home late to win in 31.06 and claim the first of what could be many over the distance.
