With flooring work underway in the Murray Bridge kennel house, the Gawler track came alive with three meetings in five days, concluding with a strong 12- race card on Sunday night.

Sunday

Brenda Oakey had an excellent night with a training double from just the three runners that she brought to the track. Burano was having his first look around Gawler, after a couple of handy Angle Park parks efforts.

Stepping out over the 531m trip, he came out much quicker than he had been at Angle Park and led easily going into the first turn. With a bit of trouble behind, he quickly put a few lengths on the others and was looking good out in front winning in 31.18.

Irish was the other winner for Brenda and he was awfully impressive from box one over the 400m trip. Having missed the start in his first few South Australian starts, Irish rectified that on Sunday leading and pulling away effortlessly to win in 22.67.

Clint Trengove put together a great training performance with Quest For Extra, who returned from a four month spell over the 531m trip.

Drawing box four in a tough field, Quest For Extra mustered hard and got himself to a clear lead going into the first turn. He was flying along in front and had set up a comfortable lead down the back before continuing on strongly winning by three lengths in a slick 30.69.

The excellent form out of the Howard Ashton final was on show Sunday as well with Victa Tony and Victa Tara both recording wins.

Victa Tara jumped from box four over the 400m journey, finding the lead and getting plenty of clear running to win by four lengths in 22.73.

In the last race of the night, Victa Tony was also able to win producing a nice run from box five to win over the 531m trip in 31.28.

Friday

Bosko Stamenkovic enjoyed a great afternoon at Gawler, with two littermates from the Fernando Bale x Boojerama litter getting up to land a training double for him.

Darling Sherry was first and she had box eight for the 400m assignment. When the boxes opened, she was far from the quickest to go and found herself in a spot of bother early.

A quick burst of acceleration down the outside saw her get alongside the leader up the back straight and it proved a shade too good, winning well in 23.09.
Hit The Drums also jumped from box eight in the next race but flew out in a ripping 8.58 first sectional and found plenty of clear running in front and winning in a quick time of 22.71.

The Jack Williams-trained Emerley Apollo is fast emerging as one of the state’s powerhouse sprinters and his blistering early speed was on show Friday. He had box five for the 400m race and produced a flying 8.50 first split set up a significant lead. From there, the race was all but over as he extended his lead to win by five lengths in an electric 22.55 to make it five consecutive wins.

Another chaser that is in excellent form is the Ben Rawlings-trained Agent Nineteen, who put together another excellent effort to win over the 531m trip. A box one draw saw him start an unbackable favourite, but things were in all sorts of trouble early when he was crossed initially and needing to do a bit of work. After getting through the first turn safely, he was able to balance up, finally taking the lead near the home straight and winning in a strong 30.68.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, the Ashlee-Griffiths trained Cash On Delivery continued its brilliant form as it came within just 0.02 of breaking the track record.

After coming within 0.01 of the record on its last Gawler start, it then went on to claim the Murray Bridge Straight Track Cup and arrived at Gawler in excellent form.

It jumped phenomenally from box two with his 8.42 being a record first sectional for the track and with clear air in front it was able to fly around the track but fell narrowly short of the record, winning by nine lengths in 22.29.

There was also a pair of training doubles on the afternoon, with Renata Maruszczyk and Jack Trengove both enjoying training doubles.

Maruszczyk has My Best Buddy win in race two before Run On Rusty produced an excellent performance from box five to win in 22.74 and winning by three and a half lengths.

Trengove had to wait until late in the card to enjoy success with Subzero Annie winning in race nine before Shrinking held off the fast-finishing Max The Snappin’ to win the last race in a time of 23.17.
