OUTCOME OF REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AUSTRALIA FUNDING APPLICATION

GRSA has received notification from the Federal Government that the industry has been unsuccessful in securing funding via the Regional Development Australia Fund (RDAF) for the redevelopment of the Gawler Showgrounds precinct.

It was anticipated that GRSA could secure $2 million in funding for a possible $5.3 million project, which would have been used to modernise outdated facilities for the various venue stakeholder groups at the venue. In advising of its decision, the RDAF Panel noted that whilst the project would deliver benefits to regional Australia, it did not present as strong a case against the selection criteria when compared to other applications.

Whilst disappointed with the final result, GRSA Chairman Michael Fabbro was satisfied that the industry had presented a strong case for funding support. “The Gawler Regional Sporting Hub project was an aspirational project for the greyhound industry and the broader community. The Board had been optimistic about a positive outcome” he said.

CEO Matt Corby reinforced GRSA’s commitment to building a new patron facility at Gawler as an industry priority. “Management has been progressing plans in the background in the event that RDAF funding was not secured. We intend to meet with Council and the Gawler Club over the next few weeks to progress those plans” Corby said.

GRSA will continue to keep participants informed regarding the future plans for the Gawler patron facility. It is still expected that construction of new facilities will commence next year.
