Gawler Meeting February 18 - An early double
Lewiston trainer Kevin Murnane landed a double in the first two races from only two runners at Gawler on Tuesday, but due to work commitments was unable to be present on track to enjoy the moment.
Kevin got off to a great start In the first race, the Rapidvite Open Maiden Heat 1 over 400m, when Goods Train was able to lead throughout and score a 4 length win in the time of 23.53 secs.
In the next race which was Heat 2, Dark Demon from box 2 took the lead from Jessie Fozz (8) and Boss Chief (6) when they jumped. Dark Demon stretched the gap out to 3 lengths and was going strongly, with Jessie Fozz and Long Gully Hills (3) back on the rails.
Dark Demon had increased the lead a little further, but as the runners were nearing the home straight, Jessie Fozz began to fly and swooped on the outside of Dark Demon to get up and win by ¾ length in the time of 23.34 secs.
Dark Demon was only beaten in the last few strides to finish second for Des Hockley of Lewiston and Long Gully Hills was third for Paula Hearnden of Angaston.
Jessie Fozz is trained by Kevin Murnane for Adam Browne. Adam has had a couple of winners before but was nonetheless pretty pleased with the win. Adam’s father had trained greyhounds in Tasmania and as a result, Adam had grown up with them and loved them as animals.
Last year Kevin moved from Murray Bridge to a larger property in Lewiston, where he has some 8 greyhounds in work. As Kevin could not be there today, he was helped out by among others, Kathy Hurley and Janine Bradsworth. Janine said Kevin would be thrilled with the result, and joked that it’s best to leave Kevin home as they get better results when he isn’t there. With greyhounds, Janine says that every day is different, and that you get a laugh out of them because of their different personalities. It does help to enjoy whatever you do and coming up with a double helps too.
Regular doubles provider Lisa Rasmussen was the only trainer to provide a double on the day with Illium Bale and Dyna Millier
Racing continues at Gawler every Tuesday afternoon, with the next Sunday twilight on 2nd March.
