Gawler Meeting February 11 - Doubling Up
Three trainers were able to lead in doubles at the Gawler greyhound meeting on a hot Tuesday afternoon. An interesting feature was that each of the trainer’s doubles were scored in consecutive races
In the Adelaide Plains Veterinary Services Stake over 400m, Stack The Deck from out of box 1, was away the best to lead. That was short-lived however, as he was quickly passed by Best Of You (6) and Jak And Boss (5).
In the rush to the front, Stack The Deck got shunted back as Best Of You took off, opening up a gap of 5 lengths on her rivals. Stack The Deck started to run on along the rails, with Permitted (7) coming into the picture out wider. However the pair never really troubled the leader, and Best Of You went on to score a convincing win of 3 ½ lengths in the time of 23.20 secs.
Stack The Deck ran second for Karen Wittholz and Permitted was third for Kim Johnstone. The winner, Best Of You is trained at Nuriootpa by John Hancock from Nuriootpa, for a Victorian syndicate, managed by Ben Riddle. In the previous race, John had already scored his first winner when Boss Beauty led all the way to take out the Dinky Di Web Design Stake.
Regular Murray Bridge visitor to Gawler, Lisa Rasmussen produced winners Vancouver Bale and Junta Bale. Not to be left out of the picture, Angaston based trainer Paula Hearnden was again successful with two members of her “Long Gully” named team, “Tese” and “Court”.
The fastest runner over the 400m journey on the day was Galilee Spirit, who ran just 22.72 secs for the distance. Trained and owned by Bob Isaacson of Lewiston, Galilee Spirit record now stands at 17 wins and 11 placings from 44 starts, which is a very handy performance.
Tuesday afternoon racing continues at Gawler, with another meeting scheduled for Friday 21st February.
