Gawler Friday Race Review

Racing News

Racing was at Gawler on Friday afternoon, instead of the normal Sunday meeting, allowing the running of the Cup meeting at Murray Bridge.

One trainer brought four greyhounds to the track and went home with three winners, and unusually the winners were in consecutive races. That trainer was Ben Rawlings, whose first winner came in race 3, a Grade 6 over 400m. Tangelo Fire jumped the best from box 5, to score an all the way win, winning by 1¾ lengths over Stitch’em Ringo (7) for Shelley Trengrove and Wreck It Sadie (1) was third for Matthew Payne.

The next winner was Black Boots, engaged in another 400m Grade 6 event, and from box 8 was able to sweep across the field, take up an early lead and win by nearly five lengths. Second was Sometime Crazy (1) for Renata Maruszczyk and Zipping Cookie (5) was in third spot for Rosa Panagiotou.

Ben’s next runner came in the next race, a 531m Mixed 3/4/5 Grade, where Threaten, which jumped well from box 6, went untroubled to the line to win by 5¾ lengths over Jabari (8) for Neil Mann, and Helen’s Teddy (1) finished in third place for Bec Romyn.

Paul Bodsworth was another trainer with multiple winners, scoring a double from limited opportunities. Paul had all the way success in a 531m Grade 6 event  with Charlie Brother, and followed that up with a fast win by Canya Go Wild (1) in a 400m Grade 5 race, recording  a very fast 22.47 secs.

Heats for the Jury@Stud feature for Grade 6 greyhounds over the 531m journey, attracted plenty of nominations, to provide good fields and have three races. The winners, Funambulist, Charlie Brother and Beatific all recorded sub 31.00 secs times, and will take their place with other place getters in the Final next Sunday night, which should result in a hotly contested race.

We are back to the normal race schedule next week, with racing Wednesday afternoon, and Sunday night. Please reserve a fable for Sunday nights on 8522-2935., as those nights are popular with patrons.
