Gary Pidgeon Claims A Treble Up The Straight
Gary Pidgeon Claims A Treble Up The Straight
Tuesday Meeting
It was a terrific afternoon at Murray Bridge for our weekly straight track meeting and the day belonged to one of the loyal straight track supporters, in the form of Gary Pidgeon who had an awesome day at the track, picking up three winners for the afternoon. Ultimate (Barcia Bale x Submission) was the first as he returned from a five month spell in fantastic fashion. From box eight over the 300m trip, he jumped really well and went straight to the early lead. Once in front, the others didn't see where he went, as he stormed away for a big five length win in 17.00. Canya Crusader (Superior Panama x Wynburn Ava) then stepped out for his debut run over the 300m trip, with a helpful box one greeting him. After a slightly tardy start, he was afforded plenty of room to move, which he took and powered on through along the rail. Halfway up, he took over and started to run away, going on to win in a quick 16.82, which is very impressive for a debut run. Flying Embers then completed the treble, with a strong effort from box one over the 350m trip. With a wide runner outside and a good beginning, Flying Embers was able to find the early lead along the fence and was looking in control straight away. With the race in control, he kept on rolling and was never going to get caught, winning in 19.73, with the kennel mate Lost Bearings filling the quinella and giving Pidgeon a great day out!
Damien Smith picked up a winner for the card, with Blind Man getting the job done in very nice fashion. He had box seven for the 300m grade 6 event and despite the wide draw, he was able to jump beautifully and go straight to the early lead. He wasn’t able to quite cross down to the rail and was being pressured most of the way up, but he kept finding and doing what he needed to. Towards the end, he finally broke clear and it proved to be a winning moment, as he got the job done in a neat 16.95. That win was career win number 2 and hopefully a good confidence booster for the black dog.
Drive The Jack was an impressive winner for Lester Harris, running a best of the day time over the 300m trip. Coming out of box two in a grade 5, he showed his typical early speed, but wanted to push up to the middle of the track. Moving up the track caused him to bump with a couple of other chasers which cost him a few lengths, but he kept on pushing and rebalanced with clear air. With 100m to go, the 33 kg chaser was in full flight and had taken the lead, for which he extended as he approached the finish line, going on to win by three lengths in a very impressive 16.71. A terrific effort and he will be winning again shortly!
