Finally Making an Impact

Perseverance can be a necessary trait when you are involved in greyhounds, and that came to the fore in race 1 at Gawler greyhounds on Tuesday.

Classic Impact led out of box 2 from Chelsea’s Flyer (3) and Pip’s Oscar (6) in the 400m race. Down the back straight though, Chelsea’s Flyer surged to the lead and got to a 2 length break over Classic Impact, with Pip’s Oscar not far away.

Classic Impact knuckled down again and started making up ground on the leader. It was going to be anyone’s race but Classic Impact held the upper hand on the outside and got up by a neck on the line, running  23.22 secs for the journey. Chelsea’s Flyer put up a good effort to run second at her first race start for Karen Bearpark of Two Wells, and Pip’s Oscar also having his first race start was third for Des Hockley of Lewiston.

Classic Impact is trained at Lewiston by Karen Wittholz for husband Mike, Bob Taplin and Val and Bob May. “Penny” has been somewhat frustrating as she has shown some ability but not taken advantage of her opportunities. In past races she has managed 8 placings in 21 races, most of which have been over the 400m trip at Gawler, which highlights she has had her chances. The connections are hopeful that now she has the idea to win, their patience will be rewarded again.

In other results, 400m track record holder Cash Or Credit, returned to his best form with a 4 length win in a great time on the day of 22.66 secs for trainer Aartie Verhoef. While racing consistently, he has not been able to break back into the winner’s circle after having a short break.

Murray Bridge trainer Lisa Rasmussen continued her recent good form with the best performance of the day with 3 wins, leading in Kenta Bale, Junta Bale and Cacia Bale. Troy Murray landed a double with newcomers to SA in El Party and Proven Daisy.

Young Two Wells trainer Jason Trebilcock brought in the final winner of the day, Elkin Bale, which was also the longest priced winner, starting at the big odds of $43.

Racing is on again very Tuesday afternoon, with the next Sunday twilight meeting being on the 24th November.
